It is very good advice because most people don't check their odometer for accuracy and don't know how to calculate their MPG nor average their MPG.

A log by itself doesn't mean anything if the data is not accurate.

I Recently switched to 89 (mid grade) at shell.

I do alot of city driving, hardly any highway. and i have 41K on the truck lol.

Get your speedo recalibrated. I drive like as a$$ and I get 20, see fuelly below.

Maybe try this if you have another car with a digital trip odometer. Drive a 5 mile route with the truck starting with the trip to zero. Do the same route, same lane with another car. Same reading to the tenth?

Everytime I refuel I figure the amount pumped with what's shown on my tripmeter and always average around 19-20 mpg on 87 octane. I'm running on the stock Sport wheels right now. And I don't have a gps to calibrate my speedometer's accuracy.

How are you getting the MPGs? Using trips to determine distance traveled and dividing it by how much it takes to get it back to full? Or are you using a guage?

If the 12-13mpg average is across an entire tank, not a partial, the something is amiss. You mention you do a lot of city/town driving... how many stops/starts per mile, on average?

I get good mileage but that's 1/2 because of my driving style and 1/2 because I worked out routes to/from work that minimize the number of stops. My drive to/from work never touches the highway. Rather, I stay on suburban streets at 35-45mph where I've timed the lights so I only stop once every 4-5 miles.

When I'm out on the weekends and average more than 3 stops/starts per mile (think city streets and parking lots) then my mileage is about where yours is. 3-4 stops per mile doesn't sound like much until you think about it the other way around... stopping every 1/4 mile

I've only put 3 tanks in my 2010 DC, prerunner, 2wd, but they've all been over 19 mpg. And that's a mixture of city and hwy driving. I'm hoping it'll ease on up over 20 after break-in.

We just came back from a trip to Lexington KY from Orlando FL. Round trip was just over 1700miles. We were driving @ 70-75 on the od. GPS said we were doing about the same -+ 2mph. We were getting about 380miles to a tank and putting in usually 16.5 to 17gal (and thats me really putting in as much as I could). Getting about 22mpg which I was happy with. Great truck for a long trip.
