Don't know about on the off-road packages, but my sport goes right into 4-Hi or 4-Lo with out any beeping.

It beeps if it is not locked in correctly. To be in 4L you must stop your truck and be in neutral (clutch pressed if have). If it beeps as you said the owners book said to try again...

it would figure the owners manuall held the key to figuring it out if i had a lil more time i would have read it :p thanks a ton as it seems my current life has rendered me to busy to use my brain many thanks to all who read the post and many more thanks to the few who tried to help have a great day and remember the diffrence between an ordinary man and a warrior is that the ordinary man takes eveything as a curse or a blessing where as the warrior takes everything as a challenge

    peace >;)

I must confess; the beeping stumped me as well. However, I can claim ignorance rather than incompetence due to the fact that I don't have an owners manual (on order). Sometimes even the smartest people do the dumbest $hit! Mea culpa.

Well don't beat yourself. SOmetimes it helps to check this site out to see if other Taco owners have the same issue with their prize possesion. I must admit I had learn more on this site than the manual. :0)

Well, I guess I'll take your advice 'cause the only place I want my back end to "go" is wherever the front end is going.:D Thanks. I'd hate to have to learn that lesson the hard way.

Thank you all for this! Mine was doing the same thing and now I know why. It was driving me nuts as well.
