Just to be clear on the light distribution. On the Revotek HLs that I had, they stayed sealed with no added silicone, but the light distribution was not as consistent across the road as the stockers. The aftermarkets had hotspots (bright spots) in the center, and it was a bit dimmer overall outside of the hotspot. Not dangerous mind you, just noticable, at least to me anyway.

I compared the stock reflector with the aftermarket and it looked like the reflector "steps" were just sharper on the aftermarket, where the stockers seemed to have smoother step transitions. I tried the stock bulb along with the supplied bulb, no difference in the light distribution.

Also "heard" that the lense and glue are lesser quality, which could be an issue over time. BTW, I bought the aftermarkets after a not-so-good BHLM attempt. So I went from stock SR5, to BHLM, to modified BHLM (first BHLM fogged), to aftermarket, to TRD smoked HLs.

The benefit of the hotspot though was that it made aiming them easier :). And do aim them asap! My set was so far off, it was ridiculous. This is a Tacoma specific light, IMO the default aiming should have been a part of the build process, i.e., aim one set, set the spec, set all others to that spec.

As far as how they looked, IMO they looked great, better then the TRD smoked ones I replaced them with. I also prefered the clear turn signal lense. But overall, I wanted the consistent light output.

09+ TRDs have the tinted/smoked bezel instead of chrome.

Before 09 they were all the same headlight. In 09 they started using darker "smoked" headlights in the TRD's. I've got the aftermarket blacked out headlights. I resealed them before I installed them and haven't had any problems with them. The light distribution is not so good, like everyone else has said. I have my stock headlights in the basement waiting for me to get around to blacking them out. What I've found about the aftermarket lights is that the light doesn't project as far into the darkness as the stocks. They look fine, but I'll be replacing mine when I have a chance.

I resealed a set of ebay lights. I didn't remove the lenses, I used grey RTV all the way around the outside edges and they are still in perfect condition after 2.5 months.

See post 7 and 8. Mine were from Revotek, and I didn't like the light distribution. Loved the look (BHLM look with a clear TS lens, nice), but found a set of the smoked OEMs and changed them for that (back to the yellow TS lens :( ).

Note that from what I saw, the distribution wasn't dangerously bad, but there was a hotspot in the middle (good for aligning the HLs though :D ), and it was dimmer around the edges.

I've also heard some reports that the front lens plastic is thinner, but I certainly didn't take mine apart to confirm that.

Reality is that it's a cheaper HL, with cheaper come some "concessions", just a matter of if the concessions are significant to you.

I bought those same ones on ebay a few years ago and they're still fine. I sealed mine as well but condensation still gets in when its cold out.
