ok so i know i'm probably going to get flammed here, but i've searched about 4 different tacoma sites with no visual help...i'm gunna be changing my manual tranny fluid this week and i can't find a good picture of exactly where the fill and drain plugs are...most all of the write ups i found were old and the pics were red-X'd...does anyone have the pics of both plugs? i've changed my oil before on this truck, but never a tranny before and i'd like a decent visual add to guide me...and is it true you need a 24mm socket for those right?...thanks guys

I think they have lifetime fluid that never needs changed, therefore no drain or fill plug. Someone will correct me if I`m wrong though.

I dont have a pic. But its easy to indentify. Both are the same 24mm socket. Slide under the transmission from drivers side.

Drain plug faces straight down on the underside, 6 inches or so in front of cross beam.

The fill plug is above the cross beam, facing the driver's side. If 4wd, the front drive axle is a couple inches in front of the fill plug so makes it a little tighter when refilling. I used a cheap pump and hose to fill it. Good luck.

Get under your rig with a camera and post up some pics. I'll point them out if you can do that.

Ok so I found the pics I needed on xr underground. Now I went underneath and tried for like 30 mins to turn the fill plug but that sucker wouldn't budge. I tried loosening it with my socket wrench but it was so tight of a space. I got two questions is there a trick or easier way to remove the fill plug? And I did read that u can fill the oil through the hole where the shifter cup sits, this would be a last resort for me. I'm planning on measuring exactly 1.9 quarts so I put the right amount in. I'm just curious is there any potential probs doing it this way?

your best bet is gonna be to either use a breaker bar or torque wrench with reverse and and you may have to put your feet into it a bit to loosen it.....or use a hammer on the shaft of the breaker bar to loosen the drain plug......they are tight as hell....kinda like the rear diff drain plug. be sure you open the fill plug first though.......it would suck to drain all the tranny fluid and realize you can undo the fill plug. just a word of caution.:)

yeah that's why i tried the fill plug first...it's such a small area to work in...i tried to get a hammer to try to tap the wrench, but again it was soo tight of an area i couldn't even really do that...yeah maybe i'll have to try a breaker bar...

Well finally was able to break it free today...i just used a regular 15/16 wrench and hammer...so i added the redline mt90 and took it for a test spin...let me say WOW ...maybe it's just me but right off the bat the truck shifted smoother, moving into gears was smoother...even reverse was significantly easier...i've read alot of people raving about this product and i definitely have to agree so far it's awesome

actually i have one quick question..i didn't have a torque wrench, so i hand tightened the fill plug with the regular wrench...i noticed when i tightened it, if i turned it just alittle too much, it would loosen again...could that just be the new crush washer flattening more with each turn?..i'm gunna keep an eye out to make sure i don't have any leaks in the next couple of days...
