Bent my tailgate

SO! You're the guy who has been driving around here stealing all the copper wiring from anyplace that is left unguarded for more than 30 minutes?? Busted!!

 

Yes that was me!! But now you've blown my cover!

 

I just spoke to Toyota. I'm getting a new tailgate. But they insist I leave my truck there when they get the tailgate in (Tuesday).

I will also be getting a free rental.

Just got off the phone with Toyota corporate and they refered my case and TSB number to the local dealer here in Charlotte.

My tailgate already had a ding in it from my own stupidity, but it was merely cosmetic dammage. Now it's full blown bent. I've never went to this dealer before, and when I had my suspension TSB done I had it done at the dealer where I got the truck from. (Jim Barkley Toyota in Asheville, NC. AWESOME dealer by the way) Hopefully they don't give me any trouble about it. I'll keep you guys posted.

 

I hope you drive this rental like it should be driven! Remove the air filter, and there better not be any tread left on the tires when you return the bitch.

 

and don't forget to siphon all but a few ounces of gas.

 

i just took my truck in to get the 30k service. told my service guy that i was standing on my tail gate and felt it bend a little and saw that there was a tsb on it... he type check for tsb on my invoice so hopefully it will work.

my question is that i dont have a bend on the tail gate i just wanna get a new one since my warranty is almost up, u guys think i will be able to get the tail gate????

 

Go put your tailgate down and jump on it a few times. My dealer would not do the TSB without my tailgate being bent. Its absurd how poorly designed the tailgate is. Go grab a screw driver and pull the plastic cover off the back of your tailgate. Its not good.

 

sounds like a plan... when i go pick it up later today and if the tsb wont be issue then im gonna jump on it till it bends

 

Legally I'm not even supposed to be eligible for a rental (age), so I don't wanna push my luck to much.

You gotta return it with the same amount of gas it had when you got it. Basically I'll be driving the Sequioa for a few days and just let the rental sit in the driveway. I'm not paying for gas in that thing.

For those who are interested, this is the bend in my tailgate.

when i picked up my truck last night my service guy said that he didnt find any bend on the tail gate. but he did say that its in the record and they have a case number for me so in-case the tail gate bends in the future they will have it replaced.

 

My dealer is saying my vin is not in the range for the tailgate TSB. This is my first Toyota so they may do vins different. What part of the number increases over time? Is 5teu62n67z46xxxx earlier than 5te###2n#8z485818?

 

i had the same issue i took a copy of the TSB to my local dealer and there going to fix it. thay said it had to go to the body shop to be fixed! has anyone had this TSB performed and did yours have to go th the body shop?

 

Dealer denied claim at first but with another copy of TSB in hand they have changed their view. They say I was the first instance of the newer 05-08 TSB and hadn't heard of it. Good news is I get the new tailgate.

Got off the phone with Toyota a little while ago, truck is ready to be picked up. I'll be picking it up Tomorrow afternoon and then will be scrutinizing the new tailgate to see if further reinforcement is in need.

 

i would like to see pictures of a reinforced tailgate, compare it to mine, to see if the problem is really fixed on mine

 

I'll have plenty of pictures up when I get it back. I've got an entire page on my Cardomain (link in sig) dedicated to the tailgate.

I'm thinking of doing something like McGrimm on TN and and placing a metal plate over there and line-xing it (gater saver).
