    Full to 3/4 ---= 5.4
    3/4 to 1/2--- = 4.0
    1/2 to 1/4--- = 4.4
    1/4 to E-light = 3.0

    Full to 3/4 -------= 4.8 gallons
    3/4 to 1/2------- = 4.6 gallons
    1/2 to 1/4------- = 3.9 gallons
    1/4 to E-Light----= 3.5 gallons

    Yesterday's fill up:
    Full to 3/4 = 4.3 gallons
    3/4 to 1/2 = 4.6 gallons
I filled before the 1/4 tank line, and got 17.4 mpg, and that's how I calculated the above quantities. It was 75 miles to the 3/4 line and 155 miles or 80 more miles to the 1/2 line.

I know this isn't a major update, but I thought I would use it as an excuse to bump up this thread.

seems like you put your numbers in the wrong spot. 75/17.4=4.3 & 80/17.4=4.6

the 4.6 and 4.3 should switch places right?

also your supposed to have a bigger 1st 1/4 tank according to your past results but yet your 2nd 1/4 tank gave you more miles...These numbers are no way to gauge how many gallons are in a specific 1/4 tank. you will always get bad results. no worries, just saying careful to base conclusions on these numbers.

Yah... I agree. This is more of a 'something else to do while driving your Tacoma' thread...

Note the mileage traveled at various fuel gauge lines, then fill up at the 1/4 line, E-light 'on' point, or E line... noting the gallons to fill up.

We are pretty sure that when on the Empty Line, you still have 2.5 gallons in the tank (18.5 to fill up).

The E light coming on is a bit more irregular, but for me it was close to 4 gallons in the tank (17 to fill up).

The last quarter tank mark is actually closer to 7-8 gallons in the tank (7.2 to 7.7), or 13.3 to 13.8 gallons to fill up.

It is a 21 gallon tank, so a 'true' 1/4 of a tank would be 5.25 gallons. What we have discovered, so far, is only the first and last quarter tank is usually close to 5.25. The middle two quarter tanks are less (3.9 to 4.6), leaving room for the 2.5 gallon 'reserve' between the E Line and rock bottom empty.

hahahaha i meant on the tanks...your first 1/4 (F-3/4)you said was 4.6 gallons but that was the tank that had 75 miles on it so it should be 4.3...now do you see:)

    You are correct sir!

I was thinking I used 80 for the first part... since the needle was over the 3/4 line from 75-80 miles on my odometer and again over the 1/2 line from 155-160 miles.

I meant to use the lower mileage, when the needle first was cleanly over the line.

    I will edit!!!

    Thank you!

i know right? hey i like to know what i got in the tank at any given moment. where im from and where i'll soon be, Gas stations are few and far between. you can bring gas with you but everyone pushes it. I like to know what options i have as far as how many different places i can go to out in the wilderness without returning home.

Sometimes your sitting out at the camp with a half tank wondering if you have enough to make a trip in to a lake or a lookout tower and still get home:)

Okay, today I filled up at the 3/4 tank line... well just 5 miles after...

The odometer was clearly centered over the 3/4 line at 80 miles...

I got to a station in 5.3 miles, the needle was on the lower side of the 3/4 line then.

I put 5.46 gallons in, to fill.

    85.3 miles / 5.46 = 15.62 MPG

    At 80 miles, I used 5.1 gallons.

Here is gj's (big) estimated gallon chart, and mine (with new figures), below...

    Full to 3/4 ---= 5.4
    3/4 to 1/2--- = 4.0
    1/2 to 1/4--- = 4.4
    1/4 to E-light = 3.0

My modified and updated findings: ........................... trip odometer reading at 18 mpg
    Full to 3/4 -------= 5.0 gallons .................. 90 miles
    3/4 to 1/2------- = 4.0 gallons (9.0 total) 162 miles
    1/2 to 1/4------- = 4.0 gallons (13.0 total 234 miles
    1/4 to E-Light----= 4.0 gallons (17.0 total) 306 miles
    E-Light to E-Line-= 1.5 gallons (18.5 total) 333 miles
    E-Line to EMPTY--= 2.5 gallons (21.0 total) 378 miles

yeah i think we are getting a respectable and acceptable margin of error there.

Im now topping off and seeing how many gallons ican possibly fit in the top 1/4 while still continuing to gather data from the lower tanks.

With the gauge needle directly over the 1/2 tank line, the truck took 9.1 gallons to fill up, today.

    So,

Here is gj's (big) gallon chart, and mine (with new measured figures), below...

    Full to 3/4 ---= 5.4
    3/4 to 1/2--- = 4.0
    1/2 to 1/4--- = 4.4
    1/4 to E-light = 3.0

    Full to 3/4 -------= 5.1* gallons
    3/4 to 1/2------- = 4.0* gallons (9.1 total)
    1/2 to 1/4------- = 4.2* gallons (13.3 total)
    1/4 to E-Light----= 3.5* gallons (16.8 total)
    E-Light to E Line-= 1.7 gallons (18.5 total)
    E Line to Empty--= 2.5 gallons (21.0 total)

    * measured fuel amounts, not estimated
