I just added the Hellwig rear sway bar to my 2007 4x4 Double Cab two weeks ago. I bought it about a year ago and finally got around to putting it on the truck.

All I can say is why in the world did I wait so long to get this thing put on. It made a HUGE improvement to the way the truck handles. I had gotten the TSB done changing out the rear leafs to the 4 pack and had thought hmmm less body roll around the corners maybe I shouldn't bother with putting on the sway bar and then I put the Hellwig on and am like wow I can actually take a corner now. Not even to mention how it handles corners under load now which is far superior to how stock handled.

Bolts on easy and had no clearance issues with brake lines or anything.

The only thing I regret is not putting this on the truck sooner. I was actually coming onto the forum to post a review about it today since I like it so much and then found this post.

My wife that doesn't have a clue about any of this stuff drives the truck a lot to work and on winding roads. I didn't tell her I had did anything to the truck and two days after I put it on I asked her if she noticed any difference in the truck. Her reply was funny you should ask what did you do! She then tells me she was going around one of the corners where the speed limit is 30 mph. On the other side of the corner was a cop. She said "I take that corner everyday and never have to worry about my speed". She tells me she is always under 30 mph on that corner and when she saw the cop she looked down and was doing 40 mph. So then I get asked what did I do to the truck that she is able to take corners so much faster.

I hadn't driven the truck after putting it on to realize that it made that big of a difference so didn't even think to tell her.

OP, what you have linked is traction bars, not sway bars. Traction bars are to prevent axle hop when you're trying to launch your truck. A lot of old muscle cars had them. Sway bars are to help cornering and prevent the suspension on one side of the truck from being able to compress without the other side (aka body roll). What exactly are you trying to accomplish with your suspension? You had another thread asking about stiffening up your suspension for cornering but were looking at stiffer springs up front. In the end, what do you want your truck to do or do better?

i was thinking about doing this but i have the Flowmaster 50 w/ dual catback
dual tails one tail pipe gos across the back of the rear
and was thinking the sway bar was going to hit on that
anyone have the sway bar with dual tails?

It's really great to hear a such a positive review of the Hellwig bars...I'd been intending to get one.

One thing to remember is it severely restricts axle movement for one wheel (that's what they're designed to do) which limits off-road articulation 4-wheeling. It's not uncommon to remove the link from one side when you go wheeling. I think you can buy quick-disconnects that make it easier even.

I don't think it will matter to me...I want good traction off road but I'm not going out to look for class 5 obstacles to test the suspension flexing!

Yes! X-Runners have sway bars! I believe the Hellwig bar uses the same holes in the frame to mount their link. The OEM x-runner bar mounts to the axle with welded-on bracket, though, and Hellwig uses a clamp with urethane bushing to mount it to the axle.

Hey! does anyone think we could get a group buy going for this? I don't think TW is as hard-core offroading as, say, TTORA is. Maybe we'd have a chance?

For everyone wondering how they install, and if it would work with your exhaust, etc... I will take some detailed photos of where everything bolts on. It is pretty much two U bolts directly on the axle with D bushings and then two Square bolts that attach to the frame. The install directions are pretty crap, but once you lay out the kit and look at the pictures in the instructions it is pretty easy to say ok this goes here and this goes there, etc...

If you have the thing just laying around like I did, do yourself a favor and put the thing on already. The truck handles WAY better. If you are on the fence get off and purchase the thing.

Here is a link to the install instructions which has some pics, but they are in black and white. However, it should give you a good idea. The link is slow to download the pdf.

Here is my 2 cents on this:
I've had mine on for 3 years now and it has really made a difference. I have a DBL Cab Long Bed Sport. It is a simple job to do and you do not need to lift the truck. Did it myself in 45 minutes. Some of you may do it in less time, I just took my time.
As for the trucks handling, it made a big improvement over all. The only thing I have changed to the suspension is put on the front shocks/springs from a Off/Road TRD. It raised the front end a little too.

I would be interested in a group buy.

And I don't plan on doing any serious off-roading at all really, so articulation is not something I particularly care about...hahaha. I do however care about on road handling....
