I never even thought about it until the first time that I used the truck at night for hauling something. The cargo light is just something that I had grown accustomed to having. As far as $s it would not add much. It is mcuh cheaper than trying to modify now. If used properly, not turned on when driving, I found the ones in the Fords to be very useful. They did a good job of the intended purpose.

I think that everyone that is on this site really enjoys their trucks or else they wouldn't be contributing to the forum. Yes, no vehicle is perfect, but we can hope for improvements.

I think you missed the point of the thread in thinking this is a Tacoma truck bitch session. For that you need to be transferring your attention to a Frontier or Colorado forum.

You guys didn't know...toyota left simple things out on purpose so that all of us could come up w/ cool DIY mods. ;) A lot of people (me included) have installed cheap bed lights.

The entire front page of the 2nd Gen section is a barrage of bitch sessions and it really makes me laugh. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not pissed or anything. I just think it's funny because the outcome is always one of the following...

    1. Toyota is at fault and I demand they fix/modify it to my ultimate liking which is not at all how it came from the factory.
    2. Truck "X" has "Y" and I paid more for my Tacoma so by default it should have it. Toyota owes it to me.
    3. I thought these things were meteor proof? How could I have broken it with my stupidity?
      or my favorite....
    4. My first gen didn't have this problem so that makes it better by default regardless of how many other problems I had with my first gen.

to OP, its so you can buy cheap walmart driving lights and put them in the side buckets. Thats what is did and i bought a 3-position switch so the 1st position is on second is off and third is on when tailgate is open. For the last position I put a door pin switch on the metal frame and when the tail gate is open the switch makes contact and the lights turn on. The only thing is you have to make it so you are switching ground and not usally what people do and switch possitive.

I was really hoping that this forum was different from the Ford F150 forum but it appears not. A forum is a place to ask questions and voice opinions whether good or bad. On the F150 forum all it takes is one little bit of negative critisism (right or wrong) and out comes all these people that have burrs stuck under their saddles. The Tacoma is the only truck that I have seen without the bed light. When you spend as much time as I do rummaging around in the bed at night it is a very handy thing to have. Sure I can rig something but it would be just that. A flashlight is not the answer. Have you ever tried to hold a 3 D cell mag light in your mouth? I know that I will ruffle some feathers but really do not care. All trucks have shortcomings. This one while big in my mind apparently does not bother some.

THEY DON'T COME WITH THEM BECAUSE THIS TRUCK WAS NOT MEANT TO BE USED AS A TRUCK SO THERE IS NO REASON TO HAVE A LIGHT TO LOOK AT SHIT YOU AREN'T SUPPOSED TO HAUL TO BEGIN WITH.

(That is also why they all come with "smart" car leaf springs back there)

Allow me to offer you a solution to the problem. Looks simple enough. You could do it one night after work or something. I'd think it would kick the crap out of any stock lights too.
