hello guys, what can i do to give my tacoma more power to pull my 16ft bass boat out at the launch ramp. the engine bog like it doesn't wanna go so i have to ride the clutch abit.when i ride the clutch boy it smell i know the clutch is taking some damage. other than that it tow fine. im thinking it might need to be re gear, but that will suffer my gas mileage. i don't want to get a different truck because it's very good on gas.(4 banger).
    my truck:
    2008 tacoma access cab.
    5sp manual 2.7L 4 cyl.
    intake and header upgrade.

I know it's a 4 cylinder and that is one of the main problem. but i used to have an 89 22re 5sp 4x4 manual and it tow my 17ft bass boat out of the launch ramp with no problem.

put it in 4lo, the lower gearing will allow u to use less clutch

Yeah man a 4 banger ain't the best thing to be pulling a boat out the lake with. I don't think your going to get much more out of that truck towing wise.

I bet he used 4lo when he had the 22re.

OP: I don't know what to suggest to you because you have a manual. Up the ramp with my boat I use left foot braking and load the torque converter a little.

OP, as you rhave a Prerunner, You may want to consider re gearing your truck. Depending on the tire size you are running.

thank guyz for the help. my truck is a 5sp prerunner. so it doesn't have a torque converter or a 4lo .bigger tires is not gonna help because its just gonna add more load. super charger is just too expensive cuz i could get a cheap truck that will do the job. this 4 banger have no problem towing on regular ground so why get a 6cyl. i guess im just gonna have to re-gear the diff. any good place i should look at?? thanks guyz.

phantom- i got some normal tires. when i used to own my 22re it had big tires and that thing can pull a 17 1/2 ft. fiber glass 150hp boat out with no problem. i would think my 2.7l would do better because this boat i have now is a 16ft. aluminum 60hp motor ,much lighter setup yet it can't out do the 22re.

I have the same issue with mine, but only at steep launches. I've just decided that it's not worth worrying about for the few times a year when I'm at those launches. I will try 4lo next time at that launch though.

I see you have a three inch lift. How much bigger are your tires than stock?

You lostyour low-end umph when you put the bigger tires on it. If you want it to pull properly get rid of the lift and put smaller tires on it. Otherwise plan on a heavy duty pressure plate when you replace your clutch.
