sr5 vs TRD Sport

I am looking to buy a 2006 Tacoma and am torn between getting the sr5 or dropping some extra cash for the TRD Sport package. I want the manual v6 and will be doing mostly pavement driving. It will see some light to moderate snow use, but no real off roading other than maybe to drive some mulch around to the back yard. any suggestions on whether it is worth splurging for the TRD Sport?

It is $2,586 versus $1,220 for just the SR5 package.
Seems like it gives you a lot of extra features which you may or may not want?

 

My suggestion would be to decide if you want the hood scoop and color matched body parts ( rear bumper, door handles, front grille).

If you haven't already made your purchase, save your money and get the SR5. Put that extra money into your IRA, buy a lottery ticket or bet it at the casino, either way at least you have a chance as opposed to throwing your money away to the Toyota corporation. The SR5 is a great truck, and many of the supposed TRD upgrades you can purchase online at your leisure(at much discounted prices) and install yourself if you are handy. i would also put the extra money in and get the sr5 - you will get the money back when you sell it, and it is always nice to have the added features.

 

Just got a 06 Access Cab 4x4, 6spd with the SR5 with out TRD. It also came with it a factory 3000lb trailer hitch, to pull my boat. To me the TRD package is a waste unless you are taking off road trips considering the rougher ride and greater cost.
However, I would like the larger tires as it looks better than the 16's that come stock.

I will have to agree with Themaster, if you have the extra $$$ for the extra's and don't mind the excess of the TRD package, buy it.

If you have the $$$ do it. If not buy SR5 and just do TRD upgrades over time.

 

I agree. If you have the extra cash, definetly go for it. You won't regret it. If not, just do some add-ons in the future. I bought an SR5, and I love it. I have done some upgrades (chrome nerf bars, hood protector, chrome exhaust tip, alloy wheels w/larger tires) which have made it look even better. Either way, I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

 

I agree with going the SR5 direction!

I love my SR5, and the only thing on that list that I didn't get was the LSD rear end (and the TRD graphics). I will be adding the LSD rear end this year.

 

get the trd whats an extra $10 a month to have a locker and a higher resale in the future

 

The TRD also has much nicer interior.

I see it as a matter of personal preference, but here's my thinking....

I got a DC TRD Sport Prerunner Long Bed, Black/Grey Leather. Really
wanted White/Grey Leather but Black and Silver were choices 2 & 3.
I found the exact truck I was looking for with the exception of Traction
Control. Maybe '07 or even an '08 you can get TC, but I could not find
it anywhere on a Tacoma in the '06 model. I liked the lumbar adjustment
on the driver's seat and the color keyed bumpers/grill surround the Sport
offered. I don't care for the graphics on the bed much and the scoop on
the hood didn't really matter to me as it does nothing except trap bugs.
The biggest thing for me was all of the "junk" options that are usually
included on many Toyotas. I don't give a hoot about most of the Extra
Mile/Permavin/Vehicle Shield/BS extra cost markup cr*p. What I was
very interested in were the JBL sound system, side curtain air bags, and
the tow package. I can say this though for sure, unless you've got the
hook up at the Toyota Dealer$hip, or a member of CostCo: I've got three
words..... BUY IN TEXAS ! I negotiated from invoice not from sticker !

You can upgrade to a LSD? What's that involve? (IE: cost, ect)

 

I am having a Transmission/Truck/4wheeler shop in San Antonio put in a Detroit TrueTrac Limited Slip Rear end. The advantage with the TrueTrac is that the differential is gear driven and not clutch driven. I expect it to last longer than the TRD LSD that I was going to get. I am looking at about $500 - $600 installed cost. I am still shopping around because I don't have the money or the time right now. I was going to put it in myself, but after hearing what is involved I am opting for warrantied work.

 

There is a different cloth interior. Hard to describe but it's more of a mesh, a lot like my girlfriends WRX. You really need to see it for yourself. Also the seats are the sport bucket seats, a lot more comfortable in my opinion, with driver side lumbar.
