MPG is how many MILES your truck GOES per GALLON. So lets say before you did the wheels you were at maybe 25... if you LOST 15-20 MPG you would be getting 5-10 MPG so I think maybe you mistyped what you meant to say

oh and BTW the x-runners get the same gas mileage the V6 get more or less, depends on the setup but stock it should get the sameish

I think the OP meant per tank.

If the rims and tires are wider, you can expect a drop due to rolling resistance.

See it all the time on the Jeep forums.

Yes, this caused a dramatic drop in mileage when I went from the horrible Dunlop steelies that came with my SR5 (inline 2.7L four) to X-runner wheels with brand new rubber. I did it at ~8000 miles, so was fully broken in. I was routinely getting 25-27MPG on highway driving to work. Then after I installed the new wheels/tires, I am getting 19.5 - 20.0 MPG same driving, same places!

There was a test in Car & Driver (I think) where they put a VW through the tests with stock wheels, then +1, +2, and +3 profile wheels/tires and the drop was very similar.

So, you're not crazy - it really happens!

    Rob

To the above post, he is staying as low as 15 on a 4 banger! I dont get that low with a 4 cylinder prerunner, lift, 46 pound tires and aftermarket wheels...
