Towing Mini Excavator

I'm hoping to tow a mini excavator on a small equipment trailer. Trailer weighs about 2200-2500 lbs and mini excavator is 3500. I know that is close or exceeds weight. What are your thoughts on this? Will the Taco Tow It? I have to tow it about 4 hours on a highway, all pretty level. I have a DC LB. Thoughts?

In my 2000 taco, I once towed a 9000 lb mini excavator about 7 miles. The truck performed, smoked the clutch at every takeoff and couldn't get it out of 4th gear on the highway, but it got the job done. It was an awesome sight seeing that kind of a load behind the little taco sittin' on 33in mud terrains.

 

I've seen pics of relentlesstaco towing a full size backhoe. I'm sure you'll be fine towing a miniture one.

 

the big thing is that people don't think. the truck can pull it but the the thing is that the combined weight of both exceeds the weight of the truck. So the braking might be the issue.

 

Braking will be the biggest concern. I would make sure that there is a brake controller hooked up to the trailer.

If the trailer has no brakes then I would not do it.

You don't want to be caught by the police being overweight or not set up correctly. The fines can be unreal. Also, if you have an accident and your doing something unsafe, your insurance COULD deny coverage.

Just something to think about.

 

yeah, stopping is the thing to be concerned about. Luckily, the trailer I pulled had a compression brake system, so I didn't get pushed around much at all.

 

We pulled one two years ago without a problem. just make sure your trailer has brakes cause the one we got from home depot didn't have any
