    I've always used dino oil in the past, but I bought my Tacoma with the intention that it would last 10+ years... that being said, I've only used Mobil 1 Synthetic 10W-30. I change it as soon as the light comes on (4500 miles). I've heard that once you use synthetic, you should not put conventional oil back in it, so I guess I'm stuck buying the high dollar stuff, but since I don't change every 3000 miles like I used to, it won't be that much more.

    Ive been using 5-30 Mobil one, I just put Royal Purple in this last time. It was on sale for cheaper than mobil one. I change it every 5k miles.

    I did some looking/reading about motor oils when I got the truck (back in January). I decided to go with SuperTech 10w-30. It's actually the Wal-Mart brand, but it's made by the same company that makes one of the name brands (I can't remember which one anymore). The only difference is the additive package. I buy a 5qt jug plus another quart bottle. Since our trucks (the 4.0L V6, anyway) take 5.5 quarts per change, I have half a quart left over, which I keep behind the back seat in case I'm ever low.

    There are several motor oil threads on the site. Spend some time searching around and you'll probably find more information than you ever thought you could.

    I change every 5k miles. (I plan to, anyway. I've only put 3k miles on the truck since my first oil change.)

    I use pennzoil platinum 5w 30. I just switched to this on my last oil change and i'll say this my oil looks much better this time than any other. I was worried because I was finding that I thought the oil coming out of my truck was looking bad and every time I checked it I thought the same thing. But since I put the synthetic in it looks much cleaner. Hasn't turned black yet.

    after break in it will be the same oil i use in all my vehicles and equipment, Amsoil. for filters and oil amsoil is all i trust and will change at 15k miles which is what most people get out of amsoil before it's done, not the 25k advertised.

    If its the Dino oil, Pennzoil makes it. If its the Synthetic, it is made be Valvoline. Its a group III Oil. FWIW, Mobil 1 is a group IV. :)

    For new vehicles dino oil at 1K. Then Mobil at 5K and every 5k after that. I also use OEM filters, I can buy a case (10) of Tacoma filters for 3.27 each online, plus shipping.

    Do you have an oil analysis done?

    Yes at first I tought that it would no hold up for so many miles but as a dealer you have a 1 first analysis for free and it came back saying it was o.k. , but i changed it anyways. I saw a comparison of mobil-1 and amsoil in toyota nation and they went all the way until 20,000. I've been using Amsoil for 30 years in my car, boat,motorcycle and had no problems.:cool:

    Cool! I run Mobil 1 and get an analysis every so often. Its a good thing to do when running oil for extended periods. :)

    Sorry, Charli...

    (had to get that outta the way)

    I understand the issues. I had the same problems with my Suzuki GS500E and my Honda Nighthawk 750. To make matters worse, the guy at the Suzuki/Harley shop flat-out told me that if isn't a Harley - he doesn't care to see it back in his shop. :eek:

    :rant::rant::rant::smash::fenforcer:
    (insert ballistic remarks that are unsuitable for the ears of children, parents, grandparents, and anyone with a heart condition)

    Sounds like you might be able to start your own shop and really hurt their business since they are the only ones in town...:drevil:
