I forgot I drove the Tacoma to work today so I just ran out a took a couple of pics on my Droid. That's why they look like shit. I think that this is the 1/2 inch tie rod end dust cap.

I made a wood shift knob once for one of my cars and bored a hole in the bottom then put masking tape on the shift boot, wiped silicone spray lube all over the shifter and threads, filled the hole in the knob half up with body filler and stuck it on then let it set. It held just fine and didn't get loose until I took it on and off a few times. The filler made an exact match for the threads, step, and taper on the shifter so it fit real snug. If I did it again, especially with just a ball I'd use something like a thick epoxy or JB waterweld for more strength, but with the silicone on the shifter nothing stuck on the threads.

Sorry about that. I left the chrome cap there. The base of the tie rod end dust cap fits perfectly over the chrome cap and is very snug.

Ok gotcha. In the pic it looked like you removed it. I might have to invest $2.00:)
