trade 2010 tacoma for 1st gen tacoma?

hey guys my coworker saw my truck today, he just started working where i work at and he has a 2004 tacoma prerunner offroad package dual cab, stock with 97,000, he's an older guy so its bone stock no mods, has all maintenance records.

i have a 2010 tacoma non trd dual cab with 7,8xx miles, navi, bluetooth, remote start, satoshi, readylift leveling kit, black head lights from ray, and other stuff i cant think of now.
well i currently owe 29,400.
his is paid off.

he said he'll trade me his truck plus 17,000 for my truck. so ill end up having to get a 12,400 loan to pay off my truck.
want to know if its worth it to trade my 2nd gen for his 1st gen.

i love my truck, planned on keeping it forever. but damn i'd owe almost 2/3 less to the bank than i do now.
what do you guys think?

 

hmmmm. thats a tough one..... It would be hard for me to get rid of my truck too...... Heres the thing though..... you planned on keeping it forever, and you got a double cab..... So if you get married and have kiddo's within the next 10 years, you will still be able to keep it.... if you trade, you will end up keeping it as a toy and getting into another loan, OR you will have to trade IT for another car.

Less debt = less stress thats for sure....

 

Nooooo! Run away! The '10 is a MUCH nicer truck. (I own both) You'll kick yourself forever. I also assume that had you wanted an '04, you'd have bought one to begin with.

 

I say keep it.....sounds like you put a lot of money and work into your existing mods.....his is bone stock....after mods to the 2004 you will be in worse shape IMO.

 

from my point of view, i dont think that making a payment on something that you cannot drive makes sence...

 

the only reason to do it would be to lower your monthly payments.

Don't do it, the 1st Gen Tacoma frames will all rust out eventually, stick with what you have, Better frame, better engine, better truck!

 

I agree keep the 2010. I owned a 02 dcab that i absolutely loved. But when I couldn't afford it any longer I sold it to my dad. A couple of years later I was all set to buy another 1st gen again but then I found my 06 2nd gen. I fell in love with it right off the bat although I still like my 02, my 06( and now my 2010) the truck is bigger, better engine, bigger cab, much more comfortable, I could go on and on. So yes I definitely say stick with the 2010 dcab.

 

Yes... you are getting your total debt to a lower amount, but, you are also getting a vehicle with 6 years more use. No matter the maintenance, 6 years > New, so yeah I personally would not do it.

might have to agree, the 05+ have had many more issues to speak of, than the first gens. And I believe he is in CA., we don't even qualify for the rust program.

 

trade it and take that 17k and Longtravel the shit out of it.then the remaining 2-5k give to the bank....lol but in realistic terms...do what you think is better

You will be paying 12,400 (plus interest) for the truck, plus whatever you already paid against your loan since you got the truck, plus whatever you paid for all your mods. In the end, your looking at spending like 15+ on a 6 year old bone stock truck. Just does not sound worth it to me.

 

u can find a better deal on a used 1st gen for a better price. If you really want to get rid of your 2nd gen u can get a better deal.

 

no dont want to get rid of my 2nd gen, just wanted to sell to get a smaller payment for my truck but still have a tacoma. and then go buy wifey a new car, have a daughter and another one on its way, so wanted wifey to have the better car. wifey has a hard time getting up on tacoma w/ the leveling kit. lol its a tough one but i think i'll end up keeping it unless my coworker forks up more cash.

 

I personally wouldn't do it. 17 grand for a 2010 dbl cab is insanely little, considering the mileage, and 12-13K basically for a 1st gen with 100K miles seems pretty steep also. Don't go for it. you'll regret it. if you can manage to make the payments, its better to keep the '10 in the long run, if you absolutely cant or dont feel financially stable at the moment, to pay off the loan, i guess it might be worth it as a worst case scenario.
