    So last night I get into my truck and start backing it out of a parking spot. It feels like it's going to stall out as I am turning sharp and moving backwards. Felt like I was rubbing a tire on the curb or something. So I pull back into the parking spot and I notice the green 4x4 light is on. The switch is still in 2hi. So I turn the switch to 4hi, wait a few seconds, then turn it to 2hi. Light starts flashing, then goes out. No more issues since, even put it back into 4hi a couple times just to test. Any ideas?

    I think the switch might have been just slightly out of 2Hi, but not sure and I can't duplicate the problem by slightly moving the switch.

    :confused::confused:

    Well, I was in the Taco Bell parking lot. I suppose there could have been something extra in my mountain dew!

    We do have a leprechaun problem, but they seem to be scared of the dark, so I don't think that's it.

    Spontaneous acceleration AND spontaneous 4WD activation! THAT would be a true problem!

    Yeah, it's a six speed. And I was pretty tired, so I could have bumped the 4wd knob. But I am positive that the knob was not all the way to the 4hi position. If anything it was just slightly out of 2hi.

    I have a buddy with a dodge dakota 4wd, his mom this super asian lady used to drive it sometimes, and she was insistant in not ever taking her eyes off the road she tried to adjust the heater without looking and she always put it in 4lo without knowing. One day we went to drive it and it scared the shit of us.

    This is my main worry. If there really is something wrong, and it's not just me, then next time maybe it'll shift into 4Lo. Then I could be one of those stories on the news and everyone will think I'm just another nut job trying to squeeze money out of Toyota.

    Well if it does shift into 4lo i really dont think you will have any problem with accelerating to uncontrollable speeds cause it really doesn't go over like 30 lol

    Being that you have to stop, put it in neutral, depress the clutch if a manual tranny... I don't see it happeneing. Try and go into L4 while moving and all you get is the flashing light to alert you that you are doing it wrong!

    I've had a similar problem before. Get in the truck only to find it mysteriously switched itself into 4HI!:eek:

    Problem seems to have resolved itself as my daughter has gotten older and wiser...:p

    Sometimes my friends and I will mess with each other by dropping each others truck into 4L when they aren't looking. Nothing like lurching forward in 1st gear when you go to take off normally!:D

    Just a thought, but I unplugged my switch when I was putting the lighted-switch kit and noticed later my 6 speed switched into 4 high. I had to drive it 40 miles that way until I got back and could plug the switch back in.
