I have a 2010 Tacoma DC TRD OR with 5100 miles on it. Today was sunny so I went to the gym and came home and parked it outside the garage. It started to rain for an hour, and afterwards I went outside to wash it.

After washing and drying it, I noticed a crack in my windshield. Just left of the rear view mirror, perfect cracked line from top to bottom. Looked everywhere and saw nothing, like a rock chip or anything else. No damage to the roof area or anywhere.

Has anyone else had this problem?

That happened to me last month... :( I also didn't have any rock chips or anything... just a huge random crack on my windshield. It definitely has to do with the temperature change

Hot glass, cold water. It does happen, I saw it happen with a punch bowl one time. One of the guys at work had put the bowl through the dishwasher and it was hot and he filled it with ice and punch and he picked it up and walked 50 paces or so and it broke into two pieces in his hands. What a sticky mess. I would suspect that hot windshield and cold rinse water would do the same thing. My opinion only.

After we had some snow about a year ago, I went out to my truck to clear the windshield and go run some errands and had a 6-8 inch crack in the middle of the windshield about 4 inches above the dash. Well, needless to say that crack has now run the length of the windshield. I guess I could pay my $50 deductible and have a new windshield put in it, but I haven't had the time yet. I've owned three toyota trucks and never had any kind of issue like this, so there must be some truth to the crappy factory glass.

That's why I never wash my truck in the heat of the day. I always wait till the sun is about 1 hour from setting, so that i still have some time left after it sets of daylight. Usually, I'm doing the finish wipe when it's dark. And, it just a cooler time of the day to do it.

Yup. I live in Alaska and last winter I walked out to my truck to warm it up for 5 min. before work. Obviously, it wasn't enough time to get rid of all the frost on the windshield so I just used the windshield wiper + fluid like I usually do...then that's when it cracked. No rock chips, just cracked and has been growin ever since.

I had that happen to my old Ranger. Hot day and when the water hit it the windshield cracked like an egg.

Mine has the same crack all the way up. It started at the bottom as a crack about 4 inches long and then I made the mistake of going to the carwash.

Just an FYI to people with the cracks, the glass is used by the truck to help absorb impact / stresses from a rollover accident.

That is why it is a good idea to fix chips / replace cracked glass.

Also it can be illegal in some areas.

I've got a couple real small chips in my windshield I noticed the other day when I was trying to clean it. Anyone find the trick to actually cleaning the windshield? I noticed the suction marks from the factory the other day when the sun hit it right.
