I know this has probably been asked many of times.
When did you guys do your first oil change? At how many miles?

yah most people do it around 5k.
however i have seen people say they changed theirs at 500,1000,1500. basically at really low mileage.

my cousin use to tell me that he woudl change his oil at after he reached 1k due to the imperfections and the shards of metal that are still lingering through the oil.

1500. Any metal or contaminants from initial break in will be in that break in oil.

I've always done the "Jiffy Lube" thing, I'm thinking dealer on this truck though. Do you guys do the 5k intervals at the dealer or quicky lube joints?

PS, I'm not doing it myself.

I had about 1200 miles on the truck for the 1st change. Will change every 4-5K from now on depending on use and abuse. Plan on running Castrol GTX 5-30 for now with Toyota filters.

Jiffy Lube sucks. I bought a car once with all the receipts including oil changes from Jiffy Lube. Once I got the car home and looked it over more carefully I determined Jiffy Lube had done nothing from their check list (checking the water in the battery, lube, etc.)

On oil changes I used multiples of 833. So the first change was 833. Next will be 2500 (833 x 3). Then 5000 (833 x 6). After that I will change the oil every 2500 to keep in sync with the Tacoma maintenance schedule. I know some people will say 2500 is too often but I only drive my truck about 5000 miles per year.

That's why I'm asking if you guys go to the dealer, those of you who don't do it at home.

I did mine at home. Changing the oil on my Tacoma is easy. I’ll probably do the lubes also since I have a grease gun setup for my air compressor.

Well you're certainly better off going to the dealer than you are Jiffy Noob.

1st oil change I did at 3,000. Every oil change after that, when the service light comes on at 5,000 miles. 88,000 miles & still kicking without a problem.
