Toppers?

Surely this has been discussed, but maybe I'm searching on the wrong term. What toppers work well for an 07 Double Cab? Anyone especially happy or not with a particular brand or model?

I'd like to look into one to cover up my bikes and associated stuff from the elements, and to lock them up, keeping them safe from other "elements" who want to steal them.

Narrowed my choices as well to Snugtop and ARE. The ARE seem to have a larger hump that runs through the middle of the topper which allows that few extra inched to close the lid on something that sticks up past the bed.

I'm leaning toward ARE. It was about 850 bones.

 

Yeah, I paid $800 for mine. The ridges(hump) are a match to your hood design. The underneath side of it is carpeted.

+1 for the Snugs. I've got a SnugLid and it's pretty dang sweet.

 

I'm looking into a Leer because there's a dealer in the next town (no shell dealers here as far as I can tell). Looks kind of steep (~$1500 for a slight rise over the cab height for tall stuff, Thule rack rails, carpeted headliner, matching paint) but if it's a quality top then I guess I don't mind too much. Sounds like it won't be too hard to remove either, which I may need to do from time to time for big loads.
Is that way out of line for pricing?

 

Leer has always been expensive. Check auto accessory places near you. That is where I got my A.R.E. For half what leer wanted. Leer was telling me some BS also, that I would have to cut my bedliner for their cover to fit. Didn't need too with A.R.E.

 

I have a Bestop, but it's a canvas topper. Good for keeping the first set of elements out, but not the best for the second set of "elements". Only cost around $500 so it's cheaper than most, is foldable, and can be removed by 1 person.

 

Does anyone know to what extent it gets cut? Any photos or description?

 

I'd like to know what they think needs to be cut since we DON'T have a bed liner... The bed is composite... Not coated/lined metal.

 

I thought the Leer guy was crazy. There was no way I was going to cut my bed liner. I think at the time he didn't have anything as an exact fit & was just trying to make a sale.
You never want to cut it. That was one thing that made me go somewhere else. And also when I bought my truck (05), there wasn't very many choices for this truck.

Check around at auto accessory places near you. You can get other brands that are less expensive than Leer & are just as good quality.

 

You guys do realize we don't actually HAVE a bed liner right? The whole bed is injection molded fiberglass-like composite material with NO metal in it other than screws, bolts, tie down rails, and the pieces around the tailgate. So there's nothing to line and nothing to "cut back" to get to a metal frame.

 

Correct. This is why I immediately went somewhere else. I think the Leer guy didn't have a clue.

But what I wanted to know was how noticeable it would be when everything isn't in place. And how reversible it would be too. It's all giving me second thoughts about Leer for sure, although the shells do look very nice.
