Having the tacoma in a hybrid version might limit the mods you can due like tires, wheels, and lifts.

This is what most people don't do. They "feel good" about telling people they drive a hybrid and just assume they are saving money. I've always said 'Hybrids are for people who are bad at math.'

A diesel Tacoma is a much better option. Did you notice in the article that North America is the largest hybrid market? That is because in other countries where diesel products are widely available there is no need for hybrids that cost more and deliver the same mileage as a diesel model.

Will this be the first MidSize truck that is a Hybrid? I saw Silverado Hybrids, to me that doesn't make sense, why Hybrid a Fullsize?

Hybrid truck = dumbest idea ever....
    1. Reduced load capacity due to batteries
    2. increased maintenance
    3. shortened life

I say toyota should invest in making a diesel engine fit into the tacoma.

Hybrid probably is stating the lines of like the Prius, Camry, and Rav4. Has the gas engine, just kicks in when it needs to.

I really dont understand the idea of a Hybrid truck- WHY! I can understand "Flex-Fuel" and terms like that, but Hybrid is ludicrous.

Most likely not- With a big demand for fullsize trucks with diesels, there just isn't a market for them.

I'm sure the Tacoma with a diesel engine would be around the same price as a base Ford F250 Powerstroke, Dodge 2500 Cummins, and a Chevy 2500 Duramax.

Toyota has diesels but strickt emission regulations prevent one from being sold. Full size pickups had different regulations so that's why you had diesels. Now even that thanks to latest Democrat sponsored law is going to change.
These people must think we all use pickups for grocery getter and as the show vehicle.

Unfortunately, that is how most of them are used...

I would definitely buy a diesel Tacoma if it was available.

Lots of people here down on hybrids I see. I can kinda see the point, 2 drive systems = more complexity and higher weight. Though I think the complexity is overstated in many cases. When was the last time your drill broke down?

Also, a lithium based battery is actually slightly less dangerous then your existing gas tank. Does lithium react badly to water? Yes. How well does the gas in your tank react to sparks? It's a different concern, but not any worse of one.

Rarely do the fuel savings equal the extra cost for the hybrid system.

I'm thinking the hybrid would only be offered on the four banger.

As other have said... Where is the diesel? Cmon Toyota, get with the program!
The oil companies must be paying them nicely to keep diesels out of the USA... everyone I talk to likes the idea of a diesel, whether it be in a Honda Fit, or a pickup truck, but there is always some excuse from the auto manufacturers, often bereft of reason, that a diesel wouldn't work.
    *End rant*
