Tailgate support a motorcycle?

reason I ask this is cause i need to transport my hayabusa, I'll park in a ditch but i need to go right at the middle of a tailgate... 500lb bike plus me (180lb) .... will it work?

 

I think it will bend. It should be ok once the bike is in there as there won't be 500 lbs of weight on the the tailgate then. If you can support the tailgate when you are loading you can get it done.

 

oh and i also forgot to mention it's a 2008, not sure if that matters....

 

it will be fine ive loaded my bike which is 300 lbs and me 225lbs. its fine, as long as you dont stand there for a long time or jump around.

 

Unloaded/loaded my 2008 R1 off the tailgate more times than I can remember off my 1st gen.
430 wet if that helps any.

i too have loaded my r1 on and off many times with out any problems. i'm not sure what year they went to the reinforced tailgates though. my buddy has a 06 and bent the tailgate bad with a 450 quad

 

Well, my buddy and I sit on my tail gate all the time at the lake. I weigh 170-175 and he weighs 240-245...and its never budged. I know thats only a combined weight of 420lbs but it held up no problem at all

Yup. 430 wet on the bike and me at 200lb.
Like I said, that is a 1st gen. and also not riding it up at ground level but at a reduced angle.
Thats still over 630lb's at a reduced angle. no problem. I would say maybe 20 times.

 

My bike weights 204 pounds (little more with dirt/gas), and it was fine along with me standing on the tail gate bringing it down/up, (200 pounds). It should be fine, as long as you don't put all the weight on the tail gate in one spot.
Just keep moving the bike up the ramp and onto the bed.

I think they knew at Toyota that we would be loading up all kinds of bikes and ATV's with out trucks.

be aware 1st gen tailgates have never had the problems the 2nd gens have

 

Same kind of thing here. Me 200, friend #1 160ish and Friend #2 250ish; all sitting on the tailgate at the same time never bent it. I have jumped up and down by myself on the tailgate in the center and it is still very straight.
I do have an 08 if that matters.

 

Did not know that. With the tailgate itself folding or the the supporting cables?

 

tailgate folding in the middle... i heard that it was on 06-08 trucks???IIRC not sure, only some people have had trouble
