I can't really vote for either of those. It's kind of one of those "I did this because I can" things.
There are better ways to do it...and there are cars that are less capable. I'm prefectly happy with my stock system for me...but if it makes you happy...great.

Probably a third or more of what I listen to is either sports, talk radio, or news. Most the apps that come in handy while driving are dependent on a 3G connection. Around here it's spotty, and with AT&T pretty much non-existant. You end up with a big IPOD Touch in your dash. I'm sure it would work fine in a more urban setting. It's just not for me, with it's present limitations. ;)

Hell yea! I would definitely install one of those as long as it was removable. Just take it out and through it in a case, then in the back seat or under the seat...or just take it with you. That looks awesome!

you should build a cover for it. like use the piece you cut out. Make it so it can pop in and out and cover it when youre parked. thats what I'd do be kinda ninjaish Ipad

You could cover it with a picture of an empty dash.
This is a great Idea if apple has seen this I bet they have talked about building something like this for cars.

It would come in handy when you tump the truck on it's side wheelin or flipped over, the screen would never be upside down. ;)

    I just got it!
Apple recently filed for a few patents for the "Next iPad." One of which being a dock connector on the bottom of the landscape orientation. Which is what you need to make this better. So waaaait for the next gen! I voted yes, because in 10 years we won't see a double din with as good an interface as this has now. And if you disagree with that, then unfortunately you are an idiot, and we're all very sorry to hear that.
