Why synthetic?

My 06 has 120k and is 95% highway driven. Probably close to 60 - 70 miles / day. I tow a 3000lb trailer maybe 6 times a year. It runs like a top and never burns a drop. Why should I switch to synthetic? (or why not)

Why are you asking?
If you're happy with what you use now, then stick with it. You don't need to switch.

I personally like synthetic because it tends to penetrate further into engine parts. It acts more of a cleansing agent removing buildup/sludge (if you want to call it that). I change it at regular 5K mile intervals.

 

it's mo betta. why go to a 4 diamond restaurant and get a $40 steak if you can get one at texas roadhouse for $10? cause it tastes fuckin good

Cause you DON'T extend drain intervals and what you been doin' is good!

 

If it's running good now stick with what your doing. I had a 1988 4Runner that went 350,000 useing nothing but dino every 3,000... never had any problems with the engine and it still ran like new when I sold the truck.

 

why not switch to something that if far more advanced in the way of cleaning, and protecting. I did a research paper last year on the differences of conventional and synthetic. trust me synthetic is by far better.

If you use your truck normally, regular oil is fine. IMO, synthetic oil won't increase your engine life if you change oil every 5,000 miles.

 

ok i have a question.when is it a good time to switch to synthetic i have 5900kms on it and winter is on it's way.isthe engine broken in i keep hearing that they run them at the factory for breakin time.

WOW- Only 5900km on an '09. You must really baby your truck! Most of the info I have seen says change to synthetic after about 3000 miles break-in. You should be good to change now.

BTW- if you are driving really short distances, it might be a good idea to change your oil more often. I have heard that acids and combustion by-products build up faster when oil is never allowed to get really hot. (probably 5000k is OK). Others- feel free to chime in on this.

 

It's more expensive so it has to be better right? I use it because I only have to change it half as often and it seems to hold up better over time. Plus, I can run a thinner oil than Dino.
