Most vehicles don't have the torque that our trucks do.

Would a better aftermarket brake system possibly solve the problem?

I've come across my 2010 'runner doing this also, looked into it... Nothing out of the ordinary from what I've come to find out. Sometimes you expect it, sometimes you don't... As long as you've got your foot on the brake and you're not up someones ass at a stoplight or stop sign, you'll be ok.

Maybe, but a shotgun will also take care of the single fly problem in your living room too...

I can't believe how everyone thinks this is normal. No other car I have driven in does this to this magnitude. This is enough to literally surge the car forward. It does this also when coming to a stop without AC on. It like hard downshift and then lunges forward.

    We have a 2009 Prerunner Sr5

    Not Cool.

My SO (with our 6 month old son in the car) says the car surged forward as she was pulling into a gas station. She said it felt like it unintentionally accelerated, but no accelerator was pressed. She has to slam on the brakes to get it to stop.

I feel this 'push/lunge/surge' every time I drive this car. This should not be normal, no other car I know of does this.

I have a 2008 tacoma and I have the rev issue when braking. As I brake I can feel and hear the engine rev to about 1500 rpm. If I go to put into nuetral, the engine revs to 4500 rpms. I have been very careful to brake early because I order for it to stop revving, I take my foot off the brake and back on again. At times I need to be very quick about the foot switching because at times the truck lurches forward and I am afraid that I could hit the car in front of me. I have mentioned this to the dealer and they plead no knowledge of this occurring. I want to get another truck but I don't want to sell to someone with this unresolved issue.

Any mechanic can do warranty work. Only a Toyota dealer can do it for free because only they get reimbursed for it.

Just the factory stuff....TRD, towing package, Entune
Could it be a problem with your idle control motor? It's a little thing that sits on/next to your throttle body and controls engine idle speeds.

Coil pack about to go out. Seen that 6 times on the Ford I have. It'll get worse. It will eventually die when braking. Like at a stop light if you have to brake suddenly or close to that. Then about 2 weeks later will go out completely. The computer is saying "pick the rpm's back up", and it is saying "trying, hang on". Until it cannot anymore.

6 year old thread. It was an issue with the driveshaft and was replaced under a TSB, fixed the issue. That was 6 years ago though, so may not apply to newer trucks????

    This thread is wild..

Went from “no big deal you’re fine” to “your engine will die when braking”
