I have abused mine and it looks as good as new......
I own a landscape Co. and I routinely have hundreds of pounds of rock, plant materials, and myself (225 lbs.) standing on it.
    So far so good.

They fixed it sometime during the 08 production year. Your's is probably one of them.

After installing the pop & lock on my 09 last year, I couldn't believe the lack of structural support on these tailgates. No wonder they are so light

The one on my '07 seems fine. I load my commerical walk behind mower into the bed with ramps (it weighs about 500-600lbs) and the tailgate holds up just fine.

i was wondering how much my tailgate could handle. just got the truck a month ago and we tailgate a lot at sporting events/concerts, and i have been cautious to step on it, and def didn't sit on it when another was sitting on it.

i have an '09, so by all accounts, it should be able to handle 600+ lbs. of weight, right?

    .

I have the same 2009 as you and I am REAL careful with my tailgate and I haul very little.

A friend of mine bent his tailgate in the middle when he hopped down on his lowered tailgate (top edge) from about 2 feet. He weighs about 200 lbs.

I do paint less dent removal. I removed a dent up at the top of the tailgate on a customers Tacoma (not sure of the year, but a couple years old) and it was wide open.

I had to remove a dent (thanks to my son) in the top of my 09 tailgate and it defiantly had a reinforcement in it.;)
