Another tire and lift question. 35s!!!

If I have a ultimate 3 inch toytec lift, would 35s fit? If they do, would it require any cutting or trimming?

 

They will but you will need to do some serious cutting.

You will need to do a lot of cutting/ grinding/ pounding.

 

so whats the biggest tire size you can fit with a tacoma having the 3 inch toytec ultimate lift kit with either no cutting, grinding, or pounding? I really dont care about doing minor cutting but once it too much thats when i get scared. so I am ok if i have to do some minor cutting/ grinding

 

I would go with 285/75/16 than.

 

265 75 16 if you want NO cutting

 

I am at 295/70/17s and I had to do quite a bit of trimming to get them (33.4's) to fit.

 

If you want to make them fit without any rubbing then you will be cutting... a lot. You can make them fit though. If you aren't going to be taking them off road then I think it's a waste of time.

You will need to;
Get a off road metal bumper (or really chop up your plastic bumper)
Cut the fender and flares
Cut the body mount and possibly some fire wall

I can stuff my 35's and I have the All Pro Long Travel kit (moves the wheel 1" forward) because of that I don't need to cut the body mount and or the firewall. I clearanced the flares 2 inches and replaced the front bumper with a custom Relentless fab one.


I still had an inch more up travel and yes I can turn the wheel in either direction without rubbing on anything

I wouldn't regear with 285/75/16 or 285/70/17's but would eventually regear if you went up to 35s. I haven't regeared yet and I have no problems.

 

I run factory gearing on my 2.7 (4:56) and they push my 33's just fine. No problemo.

 

Re-gearing depends on the driver in my opinion. Of coarse you will lose power as soon as you go to a bigger tire, there is nothing you can do about that, the real question is for you...are you ok with the loss of power?

With a 285 (wich is what I run) you will notice a bit of loss in power, not much though. I would say that with 295(33.4") or 305(34") or even 315's(35") i would suggust stepping up and re-gearing the truck. It will make everything last longer, especially your transmission (if you have an auto).

Last thing, if you do end up getting bigger tires, and you want more power, dont waste your money on intake and exhaust, do the gears first! You will get the most noticable difference there!
