Not much. Toyota bed mat, Toyota step bars, tinted windows, Toyota seat covers, Toyota all-weather mats, quart of Wild Turkey in the glove box, KelTec PT3AT in the center console, backseat full of old speeding tickets
I have the basic radio with single disc player in my truck and like several members here, I get an occasional BOOM from my speakers. When it happens, the sound level decreases but will eventuly return to normal. I usually just turn it off and back on again and it's fine. It might do it 3x today and then it won't happen again for a week...very unpredictable. But when it does occur, it scares the CRAP out of me

Does anyone know it the newer Tacos use the same radio or did Toyoto go with another supplier. I understand that mine is made by Delphi? If so, I would like to get mine replaced with a newer one

    Any help would be appreciated.

wow...never heard of the stock radio doing that. I can tell you that they are crap though, as well as the speakers. I just did the alpine install on mine, and put 4 nice eclipse speakers in. Sounds much better.

Might be a good excuse for you to upgrade.

When you did the speaker swap, did you replace the cables as well or are the existing cables sufficient?

existing are sufficient. Go through crutchfield, they give all the necessary stuff to do the install. Such as the speaker adapters, and the factory radio wire adapters. Free too.

OP, I've got a 2007 stock also, no issues in 3 years. I have the SR5, non-JBL so I'm assuming we have the same head unit. You may have a skinned wire somewhere and when it touches the metal body, makes the loud noise.

Thanks for the advice TACOMA TRD. I would use Crutchfield if I did anything, I've had great luck with them in the past. I don't want anything crazy, but after 3 years the speakers aren't as crisp as I'd like them to be.

I've read several posts here where the owners radio totally dies or just the display craps out. I've only read one other post where the guy said his radio goes "BOOM" just like mine. If the radios in the '09 or '10 trucks were different, I'd just pick one up on Ebay.

How well does the Alpine fit? Any pics? I wouldnt mine going after market if the unit looks like it "fits"

Yup, sounds as though we have the same unit. Mine worked fine until one month after the warranty ran out

Heavy stuff big tires drives like hell
That sounds like some sort of a voltage/amp spike to me.
I'm no expert though, not by a long shot.
