A little nervous

So I finally decided on a suspension set up for myself after doing a ton of reading and asking what others are running for a similar driving set up as i would use my truck for. Now my issue is im worried about screwing the truck up after install. Myself and my father are mechanically inclined. More so him, he has been in the buisness for 40 years. Ive read some horror stories about the diff bearing and different vibes. I just bought my taco as a certified used from a yota dealer. It only has 25000 miles. its a 06 dbl cb 4x4. I have a warranty. I guess my question is can someone give me some advice as to what they would do? I dont want to throw my lift in and have stuff start to screw up and and my warranty not cover it. Im not doing a ridiculous lift. I was planning on just putting 5100's all around, front set at 1.75 with an AAL. Then down the road upgrade the springs. And making it a better set up all around as time goes on. (i.e uca's, ect)

 

Don't be, the install is basic. I did mine myself with no outside help and I have put 25K on it since the lift with no issues.

 

You should be pretty safe adding 1.75 in the front and AAL in the back.

That should not create any vibes or the extreme CV angles that lead to wear.

And your truck deosn't even have VSC, right? - so you don't need to worry about that.

I recommend DIY. That way, you know everything's done to your satisfaction. And, you have the confidence to take care of any issues that come up.

 

That's no extreme lift OP. I have the same thing with no vibration. Don't sweat it. Install and enjoy.

 

buy a diff drop kit and i think they are shims? you should be good to go

 

thanks for the quick responses. Yea i know its not an extreme lift. thats not what im looking for anyway. I have just read stories about people with a similar set up that started to develop issues shortly after the install. Im not worried about the install at all. As me and my dad have lifted or lowered tons of vehicles in the past. I was just more worried about developing problems, and problems that would screw me out of getting them fixed under warranty.

 

Is the diff drop a good idea to put in even though im only going 1.75? Most of the stuff ive read its only an issue with 2.5 or higher. I suppose it couldnt hurt regardless of the height.

 

I personally would just install what you have and address problems IF they pop up. I really doubt you will have any major issues. Are you doing an AAL to TSB spring pack or the 3 leaf pack?

 

i have billies at 2.5 and aal no warranty issues shocks arent under warranty anyways ive had warranty work done since with no issues

What set up do you have that you have them at 2.5? I heard you can't without issues. I have the TSB in mine. And I want to do 2.5 but see many people post you can't without issues. Do you have the diff drop kit? Do you have the TSB yet? Just want to lift it but don't want issues you know. And am just going to put 265/70/17 on it nothing more. Thanks for your time and sorry for all the questions. Just so many different stories to follow.

 

I dont have TSB just the toytect 1.5'' AAL in the rear and the billies set at 2.5 or 2.75 whicever the highest is. no diff drop its unecessary with that height. I have no issues whatsoever. didnt even need an alignment. im running 265 70 17 as well do it youll love it

 

im like 99% sure its just the 3 leaf pack. i looked at it when i bought it but cant quite remember. As for going the full 2.5 from what ive read (and im no expert just saying from my research on here) if you go the full 2.5 it may not be required but it is a damn safe bet to do the diff drop. You dont want anymore stress on the cv's than needed. It kinda seems like its all in what you think though. Some say its not needed others say its a must. Imo if i were going the full 2.5 or higher i would with no question put the diff drop in. Thats just my thought. But im no expert. i just read haha.

 

So what would I add to the rear with the TSB already done? I don't want blocks.

 

You say you have the same set up, but in your mods it states 1.75. So which is it?

Where do you want to put your stress? If you install the diff drop you ease the angle on the CVs but throw off the angle of the front driveshaft from the T-case to the front diff.

CVs were made to flex with the suspension. Anything under 3 inches really shouldn't be terribly stressful for them.

Even if they are stressed a leetle extra, replacing boots isn't horribly hard or expensive in the grand scheme of things.

Personally, I would rather work my CVs a little harder than muck with T-case/differential orientations.

Yeah, do it. My dad and I are retards when it comes to vehicle mechanism. We put my billy's/ AAL on no problems, besides some bloody knuckels
