How to run wire thru Fire wall?

I'm trying to install some after market lights to a switch in my dash. I have every thing figured out except how to run the wires thru the fire wall. I have tryed pushing the wires and/or a wire coat hanger thru the rubber boot the rest of the wires are going thru. but no luck. any insite or personal experiance would be great.

 

You have the right place but try to put the wires through the boot just next to where the main wiring harness goes through the firewall. You can put your finger in there next to the boot that goes around the wiring harness. I used my knife and put a slit there and was able to manually fish two wires through without fish tape for lights. It is too tight to get anything through where the harness is.

lol! i have used nose-grease in the past for lube to hold an O-ring in place. body fluids rock!

 

I use some very thin extended length bottle nose pilars like theses and push through the rubber along the other wires.

 

This is what I did to run the power cable for my amp. Well, minus the lubrication lol.

 

Just pop the rubber boot out and cut the slit bigger if needed. It's easy enough to put back in.
Just dont run the wires between the boot and firewall opening.

 

if you hit up the local hardware store and get a long zap strap (12-16") and cut the locking end off u'll have a perfect and inexpensive feeder strap and its flexible and for lubricate... window cleaner (windex) is perfect... fast drying, non greasy and most people have it around the house...

 

Can anyone post some pics? im trying to run a power wire for my amp... wheres the boot?

 

Driver's side, under the hood, look at the bunch of wires going to the cabin. Around there the rubber boot has a nipple, which you can cut the tip, and pass wires trough there.

 

here's a trick that I'm surprise more people dont know about. Use the body of a BIC or similar type pen and force it through the firewall. Then just run the wires through the body of the pen.

 

Check out the amp install guide on *********.com. They are running 8 gauge for an amp but same idea and the pics are great!

This is where the stock harness passes through the firewall near the clutch pedal. The top "wire" is the hood pop cable and there is an unused pass-through on the bottom that can be used. Simply cut the rubber cover off to open the tube on the engine compartment side...in this pic you can see where I previously ran my foglight switch wires through this hole.
