Foglights are for fog, not oncoming traffic!
Mine cracked off the bottom hinge a few months ago.
Subbed for Toyota's arrogant response to shit rusting off and falling apart on supposedly 'quality' products.

Greetings all---I just noticed the same issue with my fuel door (2010 4door/SR5/4X4). It looks like the hinge is completely rusted out and all the paint has come off inside. It is very rough and noisy opening the door to fuel the vehicle. I have about 22K on the truck thus far in addition to having purchased the extended warranty when I bought the truck. I plan on bringing it to the dealers attention during my next visit. Just wondering if Toyota has covered the repair for anybody on the board? Thanks in advance, Dan.

Hi again---Just an update...I brought this problem to the service department's attention who acknowledged that the hinge was indeed broken as it may have been bumped into or opened up too aggressively (although I am the only one who puts fuel in it and have been nothing but careful and gentle when re-fueling). They WILL cover the repair under my warranty and offered to have the body shop paint and install the door. Although I am generally satisfied with my Tacoma, I just want to say that I have never owned a vehicle that has had more recalls/issues/ TSB's/etc. than this Tacoma. Hopefully when I get this squared away along with my 3rd squeaky fan blower motor it will be all set.

My fuel door has the same problem with the cheap hinge arrangement by Toyota. Poor design for such a normally good company. I'm going to try to put a small hinge bridging the regular set up before I spend $75. Let me know if anyone's found a reasonable fix.

Is there any fix for this besides buying a new fuel door? I just bought this truck to replace my first gen tacoma and found this issue when I fueled up the first time. Not impressed.

my bottom hinged cracked the same way, the hinge seems to be riveted to the body, no easy way to change that right? Not like its just bolted on or something

I think this is caused by allowing the cap to dangle when fueling.

Been there, done that on my 2006. First and most importantly, you've got to keep those things lubed. It took Toyota a really long time to save enough gum wrappers to make that hinge, you want to be careful with it!

Mine originally got bend because of a careless fueling episode, the nozzle bent it out of whack by forcing the door too far open as I tripped over the hose....duh. If your hinge is not rusty, grab the whole thing and forcefully tweak it, the hinge is that flimsy that you can adjust it that way. If it eventually breaks because of rust, you have to buy the frame, the cover, and the rivets separate and have the door painted... cost me $80!

For those of you with the Platinum warranty and it specifies "fuel door spring"... that is the black clip that keeps the door closed and not your fuel door hinge, been down that road already.

both of the hinges broke off og mine,a 2011,and you can't just buy the part that bolts to the truck with the hinges on it,you have to buy what they call a complete kit, with an unpainted fuel door,I don't understand why they haven't recalled this part and make a better set up,my door fell off and scratched the side of my truck, before I had a chance to stop and rip the dam door off

Anyone who has a good fuel door right now, should be coating the hinge and entire inside of the fuel door with Fluid Film or some other rust inhibitor!

I saw a similar thread to this a while go and then noticed that my fuel door was creaking and rubbing. After spraying the entire inside of it with fluid film it now opens and closes as smooth as butter.

I'm having the same problem on a 2013. Looks like I'll be investing in some WD-40. I looked for a replacement, but all I can find are really bad looking chrome ones for $26. I don't think painting it would make a difference.

It's at least comforting to know I'm not alone with this problem.

Toyota body shop should be able to replace it with color matched one for under $150 .
I just did this on another Toyota I own.
