What kind of Jack Stand to use with truck. what load capacity?

I need to buy a jack and jack stands. what load capacity should I buy? would 3 ton jack stand work?

 

Yes, 3-ton stands will work. Remember that jack stands are rated per pair. So the 3-ton stands are actually 3000lbs each.

 

get the tallest ones you can afford too, I always have to stack wood blocks under mine to reach the frame rails. It's really annoying.

 

I bought the big tall heavy stable 6 ton ones. I want to feel safe while I'm working under there. Also, trucks sit taller than cars, so you need to be able to have them extended taller; and the bigger ones tend to be taller.

The ones at Kragen/OReilly freaked me out. After I bought them, I found that the adjustable catch had a very tenuous hold on the extension bar. I thought it could let go, so I returned 'em.

My two cents: don't skimp here.

 

I have this problem too. It's a real PITA. Been thinking about getting another set that's taller.
