I bought a new 2011 Tacoma Access Cab a few days ago and noticed the doors require much force to close and have a "tin can" sound. I took it to the delaer who took it to a local body shop for adjustment. Now doors close a bit easier, but not right, and still have cheap sound of a 1950s American made vehicle! What can I do to solve this?? HELP??

I have moved from a std cab to an access cab recently and noticed the really bad sound when you close the front doors. To me they sounded like they are hitting something before the latch. What I found is that the access cab has a spring loaded plastic wedge device in the jamb, near the latch post, that a std cab does not have. The door has a strip of clear protective material in the jamb for this wedge to ride on. I suspect this was added to prevent door rattle when closed and is responsible for the bad sound at closure and could effect front door closure force. I took delivery of my truck new about a month ago. IIRC it was built in Feb 2010 in Freemont, Ca. The doors function fine except for the awful sound when the front doors are closed.

My 2011 TRD Sport AC doors need a lot of force to close also. I thought something was wrong with them because when you open them they pop open. I thought there was an alignment problem with them. Its both doors. I was going to look at some Tacomas at the dealer and see if they all do it.

The doors on my '11 AC did take a bit more force to close than I expected; definitely more than the doors on the '07 FJC I traded in on it. That seems to have gotten better after I put my lift on, for whatever reason, or perhaps I just got used to it.

I agree, There is a flapper valve in the back cab wall to adequately vent the cab.

This is a problem with the doors...nothing to do with the rubber seals and a "tight" fit...this is a significat quality problem with the plant in Texas

I just bought a 2011 Access cab and noticed the same thing. During the initial inspection, I thought there was a problem with the doors, but was told it was normal and would improve as it breaks in. I'm skeptical. Sounds cheap or like things aren't aligned right. Really missing my 98 Xtra cab.

Air tight.....with the front door open?

You might want to re-think that for a second.

Sorry to hear about door issues OP. It is things like this that make you feel like no one believes you, but it can happen. Mine is a Mexico build and everything has been great but the gen 2 doors are thin and had that tin can sound on mine too.

When I upgraded my speakers I laid sound deadener on the outside and inside sheet metal and foamed up the door. Wow what a difference. One finger push and closes like a caddy with a solid sound. I didn't expect a $20k pickup to come with sound deadened doors, but this was a quick fix to get it up to my standards. They don't make cars like they did pre-2000's anymore. More thinner metal and more plastics it seems. Some is for the better (safety & fuel economy) and probably most for the worse (everything else).

Enjoy the new truck and I'm sure it will work in after a while.

flapper valve? I didn't know that! I works like a check valve, lets the air out but not in?
Does my Double Cab have the "flapper valve" also?
I am learning a lot from this site!
f**king car salesman never told me that!
