    Good input, Justin. Thanks.

I did keep everything except the rear brake lines and the junk Dunlop rubber. However, I don't really get a good feeling about taking a new truck and throwing on stuff that already has 20k miles on it.

I already looked into that and financially it isn't feasible. ;)

My wife said this also after I wanted to trade in my '08 Accord after owning for only a year. Within that year I lowered it, put on different wheels and tires and tint plus of few other things.

I bought the Tacoma and immediately ripped off the tube steps and mud guards. Believe me, I don't think your wife will stick to her stipulations. She just wants to make sure you're committed to the purchase and in a year you won't be looking for something else. Also, it may be that the missus is due for a new vehicle herself.

I am leaning to just keeping the PreRunner. Financially it makes the most sense (will be paid off in a couple months), and as I said before, I don't "need" those front wheels to have power. Thanks for the help guys.

We got her a new vehicle last November. 2009 335d. She is set for a few years.

I agree... My late great pathfinder that is no more was modded 100%. My wife is trying to pull the keep it stock crap. I tinted the windows and bout some vent shades. Next the stereo... I did tell her I was going to wait for the stock tires to wear out before I lifted it... She just accepts it. Lol

Pull the trigger!! How many times have you been tooling around in ur truck, saw some awesome road and been like 'dang, if only i had a 2 wheel drive truck'? We all may only use 4X4 10% of our time driving but it's there when we need/want it and let's be honest here a stock 4X4 is still 4X4 and a heavily modded 4X2 still only has 2 wheels driving. I say get a 4X4 and take your wife down a trail that you know you'll get stuck on and when you do, BAM! You say "well honey, if we had Duratracs we wouldn't be walking right now". Problem solved. You can thank me later..as your wife curses my existance...in your 4X4:crapstorm::yay::mudding:

I say get a 4x4 with either TRD pkg. return yours to stock and put all the goodies you have now on your new ride. You then arent buying new mods, and you have 4x4. you win twice! no worries about putting your current stuff on the new truck. It isnt going to hurt anything.
Its easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

I know a lot of you are saying put the old stuff on the new truck...that option isn't on the table. However, this is....

What about going with a DCSB TRD Off Road? The tires are certainly better the the dunlop and you get the locker.

I'd keep what you have. Even though mine is 4x4, parking it next to yours I would feel a bit inferior. Your truck looks great, and is it really worth having 4x4 plus another car payment on something that is bone stock for 7 years?????? You thought about getting a locker??? It might make those trips off road a little easier. GL w/ you decision.

    DCLB FTW!!!!

My wife hasn't noticed the OME lift on my truck yet and it's been over a month now.

If she finds out though, I'm a deadman. :anonymous:

Took me about a month or so to wear her down so I could buy an ARB bumper for my truck.

You never hear anyone with 4x4 going "Damn, I really wish I had gotten the Prerunner option instead."

If you can afford it and you want it, go for it. I you can just afford it, don't bother. Sounds like you just have a little penis envy going on from not having this little switch.

Do what you want, but remember, any mods you do to your PreRunner will not make it 4x4. I'd much rather have a stock 4x4 than a modded PreRunner. (I drive a PreRunner)

When I first saw this, I thought this guy was a bit of a jerk. And then I saw this...
    Now...
    X10000000

My wife may not have been as serious as yours, but she certainly tried to push the no-mod agenda. So, I started with a couple small, cheap, functiona/convenience mods (Anytime Review camera and Illuminated 4x4 switch) to soften her up. Now she's accepted the fact that its my truck and I know what I'm doing.

Now if I can just convince the bank to accidently drop a few grand into my account, I could afford the lift/wheels/tires that are next on the list.

I bought my truck 4 months ago. My wife said "and you're sure this is what you want? You won't want to get new wheels and change a bunch of things in a few months?" She was mainly asking because she wanted to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted. I explained to her that it was what I wanted at the price I was willing to pay. I told her if I got exactly what I wanted, it would have cost much, much more.

She also knows and understands that I have a disease and cannot completely leave my vehicle alone (when she met me 14 years ago, I had a '70 Chevelle SS). So that being said, she understands me and within the first 4 months of owning my Tacoma, I have purchased leather seats for it, new wheels and tires, bike rack, and just today, purchased nerf bars. I can't help it. There will be more.

All that being said, I still voted keep the PreRunner...because I never need 4WD. I had it before and never used it. If you need it though, go for it.

thankyou for saying this! imo id rather have a plain jane 4x4 vs a modded 2 wheel drive. but the saying goes, To Each Their Own!
Besides, like everyone else is saying, it will be no time before you have it modded to your preference. all u need to say is .. "hunny, u got a BMW" .. i deserve to do a few things to mine!

I don't think he'd be too upset. He already has a 2 wheel drive truck.

So I spent some time talking with dealers today - negotiated a decent deal and found one who is willing to get the exact truck I want. 2011 DCSB 4x4 TRD Off-Road, silver, tow package and six disc CD. This weekend I will get my truck back to stock and get a car max offer, then the dealer will match it. Any suggestions on how to get the maximum price out of car max? I am good with the KBB trade-in value, but the Edmunds scares the heck out of me.

I have 23,500 miles and am hoping to get $23k including the shell and 100k mile extended warranty. Is that unreasonable to hope for?

Also to keep the wife-bashing at bay, she makes about twice what I do (hence she deserves a $47k car) and is actually reasonable with letting me buy a lot of stupid things. And she did agree to a camper shell, window tint, and bed mat.

Edit: I am super excited to get rid of that damn hood scoop. ;)
