structural foam box- worth a crap?

thinking about putting my silver diamond stamped slim toolbox on craigslist.
it's the only silver thing on my truck now and sticks out like a sore thumb.

don't really want a diamond box in black either. just not digging that look.

knowing the sag-ability of the old polystyrene toolboxes, i was looking at these
structural foam boxes from DELTA, supposedly reinforced for no sagging.
i'd like to think this will cut weight, and i think the lines match the existing
composite bed and bed caps. does anyone have experience with these?

and i'm thinking i'll do a coat of krylon fusion just to blacken the 'grey' swirl of this box, and pop that fugly delta label off.

are there any other trusted structural foam boxes, all i can find ids delta doing them.
i know these have the risk of easier theft andbreak in, but it's pretty much to carry jumper cables,
blanket, and overnight bags when two people are in the cab.

those boxes should be pretty good, but i'd guess too that they are heavier than the diamond plate boxes, maybe not by much, but some anyway.

you got any pics of the box you are gonna put on craigslist???

I have one next to my garage you can have. You should know there are holes in the top of it therefore it is not water tight. It wasn't mine either so I have no idea how good it was.

here's some pics. this is from lowe's itself- where it's from. NOT MY TRUCK

although it doesn't have that step/ridge in the wall at all.
kobalt slim box for compact trucks. vertically deeper than a standard box, but thinner., like maybe 14 inches wide.

here is a pic from someone's ebay listing, this is more what mine looks like.

keep in mind mine is for a compact truck, not full size.
it also has four holes drilled in it now (two both sides of the overhangs.).
the kit that came with it was crap. doesn't fit the rail system at all.
BUT the provided bolts reach down and screw snugly into the two small holes on the toyota tie-downs.
the plastics and spacing and rail system was essentially the same as the kit, but better made,
so i just used them and would recommend sacrificing a set of your tie-downs for it too.

just went and measured it.
at the top, it is 62 inches.
the width of the bottom part (in the bed) is 51.
there are actually about two inches of space on both sides before it would touch the walls of the bed.
which was perfect for the rail system tiedowns.
it is 16 inches tall/deep, leaving maybe ten inches below for storage between it and the bed floor.
it is about 13 inches 'deep'' inward. this is slim enough that it ends just before the wheel wells begin.

hope that helps. it cost me $150+tax, i'd part with it for $100 for starters, i've only had it maybe a month and a half.
if saving $50 is worth your drive, that's why i was going to craigslist it locally.
up to you- but thanks for considering!

well shiiiiit. found another site with a gret price on that structural foam box, but they gave the measurements and specifically say that it will NOT fit a tacoma- of any kind.

so for now, i guess i'm keeping this alum box.
maybe i'll paint it with bedliner.

any suggestions as to the best? do i prime an alum box for bedliner?

I'm looking for storage, too, and I saw this at AutoAnything. The way they describe it, it seems as if they do fit Tacomas. The one reviewer even states that he fit one to a 2005 Tacoma. It looks like they come in two flavors; full-size and "compact".

yes- this afternoon i went out and measured everything and compared it to the 'compact' box.
i don't know what crack they are smoking, because it will fit.
in fact it will sit high enough that it will easily clear the wheel wells if it even reaches them.

so, now i just gotta find the cheapest one. TURBONIUM- DON'T buy it from autoanything. it's like $100 too expensive.!
i saw one for like $230 with free shipping...now where was that?
well, for starters it's $244 here
http://www.benmeadows.com/store/item/69873/
and i'll keep looking

and i still want to sell my alum diamond box first

Not sure how much bedliner costs but you might want to look into Brownell's Alum-Hyde II. It is an epoxy based paint that is made to stick to just about anything, even plastic gun stocks. Gun solvents and such will not affect it at all. This stuff has to be sanded or blasted off, liquid solvents will not mess with it. It is used for a firearms finish so it handles salt water spray good too. It is sold by the can or quart. Cans are around $11 each. I'd say about three should get you a good coat. Suggest the color Matte Black. You can even wax this stuff for even more protection! I have several firearms coated with it, my BHLM was done with it and (no flaking whatsoever) and I just painted my chrome grill with it. Only deal is at room temp. it takes a "week" to dry well. Under the sun all day and a fan on it at night and 2 days it's dry. You can actually smell when it's dry because it loses it's base chemical smell it has when not dry. Just a suggestion for some killer paint. If it is good enough for my weapons I reckon it's good enough for my truck.
