Battery

Mine lasted 2 1/2 yrs and then I replaced it............

 

my battery is still good...08...

dad's 06 had to replace it like 6 months ago or so. he just went to sears tho lol

 

It isn't a sure thing, a battery could end up with a bad cell at any time and then it's game over. A load tester will just tell you what is left in the battery for CCA's (Cold Cranking Amps). Depending on what size of battery we're talking about, if it registers within 100 CCA of what a new batt. is, then odds are you're good to go.

ok gonna get the yellow top any help with the installation???? thanks i seen where a guy had to modify the terminals and lye the battery down what up with that???? any pics and writeups???

 

Carry jumper cables & don't worry about it. It dies, get a jump & go buy another battery.

I have a '06 and the battery is still fine, although doesn't hold as good a charge. It's lasted so long that I will likely just get another one just like it! How many batteries ever last 5 years?!?!? I'd say the OEM battery was just fine.

 

My brothers Ford battery lasted 5 years.... I think thats about average. I would go with optima battery-top notch

My 02 was still on it's original battery when I traded it in this summer.

 

That's amazing ! 10 years in upstate ny. you'd think the cold would of killed it years ago. Most don't last over 5 years.

Not sure, but they come with a 3yr free replacement. I just replaced the battery on my 05 tacoma. I purchased the truck in september of 2005 and it finally died with 67000 miles on the odometer. Most of the battery life was in the soutwest heat so i'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. I also was reminded that my package came with a heavy duty battery. The stock battery had 710 cold cranking amps compared to the optima red top's 720. As far as any other specs between the heavy duty stock and optima's red i'm not sure. maybe someone could shed some info on the stock heavy duty compared to the red top.

 

I am getting nervous the more I read these posts that mine is going to die on me without notice.. When I was at Costco over the weekend, they had an Optima Red Top 35 series for $139. Should I go for it, or wait until it finally dies?

 

I'd think about getting it with an '05. Mine gave me hints here and there that it was time to look into a new one. When i'd go to start it after sitting inside with the radio on for a while, it would take a little longer to kick over. it would do the same sometimes when i'd go start it after being left outside over night just recently. listen for it when you go and start the truck. mine gave me hints, but i waited until it died in a store parking lot to replace. I didn't really shop around, but i'm sure Costco will have the best price or close to it. Also, Costco's policy is that they will take back any product if you're not satisfied, regardless of condition or time as long as it's not electronics.

 

That is a great price on the optima. I would go for it. Peace of mind trumps worrying about it.

I'm very pleased with the optima batteries. I have 3 of the marine batteries, one of which is over 7 years old & still going strong.

I replace the batteries in my vehicles every 3 years. Its just not worth taking the chance on getting stuck somewhere. Usually when a battery goes you get little to no warning.
