Just dropped off the truck today. It was really hard to get the mechanic who rode along with me to verify the ticking/knocking at 1700-2300 rpm but he did. He also verified the whirling sound for the tob... now just to have them cover it under the power train warranty... They're going to work on it Monday along with my carpet i'll let you guys know what they say.

The dealership said that everything was normal.... that there was nothing wrong and that the ticking and the whirling. They also said that i'm trying to find a defect that isn't there. Mine is an 07, does EG021-06 APR 06 Exhaust System - Ticking Noise Between 2,000-2,500 RPM apply to me? Also, can I make it to 200,000 miles without getting the TOB problem fixed/aluminum bell housing replaced? I don't want to have to pull out my transmission later down the road and pay for it if I can get Toyota to fix it.... It doesn't help that im up against a senior mechanic and a service advisor and i'm not a mechanic and I'm relying on TW for answers. I dont want to go fight for something if it's just an annoyance thing and not a major thing.

    HELP ME OUT GUYS!!!!

Edit* I just left a voicemail on the service guy's voicemail reading basically, the OP's first post.

I dont think yours is a TOB issue. TOB's are usually noisy in neutral, and most easily heard at idle. Depress the clutch, sound goes away. imo, driving between 2-2500rpm, might be a different issue.

Those are two different issues I had the mechanic verify. A pinging/knocking noise between those rpms which i thought was the exhaust tsb and the noise that went away when I engaged the clutch which i'm pretty sure is the TOB.

    .

Howdy all. I'm the guy (from the FJ board) who worked out the deal with PDM to get them on board with the sleeve kit for the AISIN 6 speed that the Taco's and FJ's share. That was about 10 months ago (http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/foru...106475-throwout-bearing-trouble-6-speeds.html).
Now we are getting some pretty darned good info that a TSB is coming out shortly. One Toyo tech has already seen the paperwork but can't make it public until after Toyo does. He's indicating that the fix is more involved than a sleeve kit. One can only hope !

Personally I'm hoping we get something like what's on this page :

    71,

shit dude, do not tell me that this is the light at the end of the tunnel...is like almost xmas time for the big announcement.

Those jackasses at HQ Toyota better get every Tacoma fixed. To include my 07 which is now out of warranty.

Thanks to you for all the hard work, I have the PDM kit in my truck. It is holding strong at 34k miles.

Thanks for the link to that promising part. I just do not get its design but if it works, then I will be happy to buy one and install one myself.

    Happy Holidays.

It wont because its not a safety risk (at least at this point), just an annoyance.

    .

I agree there probably won't be a recall  ...... just a TSB (at best). One may want the T.O. Bearing to fail quickly while still under warranty. Unless TSB's would cover a vehicle out of warranty ???

I had the dealer replace the clutch on my '02 when they did the frame recall, gave it back twice with TO brg noise. I now have a an '09 Auto. Problem solved. :D

The clutch pedal noise goes away when you grease the spring hook. I found this out back in the 70's with Fiats. Easy fix when you figure out where the actual noise comes from/ It ain't the bushing.

Further to my above post - the Toyo Tech who has seen the upcoming TSB has flat out stated that the fix will not be anything like the PDM kit.

He also states "it sounds like the parts that are going to be released are going to work out, looks like they put some serious thought / time into the fix for it."

Can't wait to see what is coming down the pike (we've been waiting long enough) !!!

I'm guessing those that are out of warranty are SOL.

Nope. In suit happy America, a class action lawsuit should take care of it. I really don't care as long as I can buy the damn part and do it myself. I am keeping the truck until I can't turn a wrench on it.
