Wife ran over some goodies - thoughts advice... New Undercover tonneau?

This weekend, I took my tonneau cover off cause I had to carry a load.
Pictures: cause I love when I actually use my truck for truck stuff.


Well, anyway I took my Extang Trifecta off to be able to this. Laid it down in the garage and forgot about it. Mind you, we have yet to start parking in the garages so I thought nothing of it. A few days later its raining and my wife decides to pull into the garage. Long story short, she ran over my Trifecta, my cargo divider, our sons bike and skooter.

Anyway., the cargo divider punctured the leather which I immediately duct taped from the inside and for some reason it's no longer as flush with the bed as it use to be . It's still very much usable, but I am really contemplating using this as an excuse to get an Undercover.

I can't decide though. I have been wanting something more secure for my trips to the city, but am afraid it just won't be as simple to take off and put on as the Trifecta is. But if I were to believe their site, is all but a few minutes. What do you guys think?


Some more pics of the load, I had to do three trips to dump all the cement in a friends backyard he is trying to fill. The cement was leftover from when I redid a walkway.

You put a tarp down to haul some concrete?

One of the members here made an overhead support in his garage for an undercover. It lifts directly off the bed and keeps it hanging for easy reinstallation. Obviously a couple minutes longer than your soft tonneau but relatively easy. Might I recommend hanging it high enough to it clears your wife's car?

 

Can your wife come over and park in my garage? I have some stuff that I'd like to get run over so I can have an excuse to replace it.

 

Doesnt make any sense to me, its a TRUCK! Use it as a truck! lol

 

Getting to the Undercover, it really is simple to unhook. I can have mine off in less than a minute. Just pop the struts off, then lift it off the piano hinges by the cab.

Some people put key rings in the hinges for added security (I don't). That takes an extra couple of minutes to undo.

The major disadvantage is that it isn't compact like the Trifecta. You can't just put it in the corner, or lay it in the bed of the truck.

no kidding...you figure one would stop after the first bump, or the sound of hitting something...

 

Trust me guys I ask myself the same question. I do not fathom how she just blindly drives into a garage after not having parked in there for the entire summer. She has to have known, that if not my toys, then the kids have stuff. Garage is a haven for crap during the summer months and we had just recently started picking up to prep for the cars and the coming winter.

My bed is already banged up, why make it ten times worst with the loads of cement when I can throw the tarp down in 2secs.

Actually very smart, just sometimes its like, who knows.

This is one of the things that is giving me reservations about the Undercover. It's happened only once that I could think off. How often have you wished you could just remove and put to the side.

I said the same thing. Didn't you immediately realize.

 

Just get some J- hooks put on the wall and there's holes in the cover to hang it on the hooks on the wall. I even think those hooks come with the cover when you buy one.

 

I haven't personally ran into that issue, yet. I don't usually make a ton of impulse purchases that require me to use the whole bed.

But I could see it being a problem for emergency use. Say, your buddy's bike broke down and he needs you to pick him and it up on the way home. Or you found a deal on landscaping rock, but you have to pick it up today.... That kinda stuff.

Pick your metaphor. Either way, shitty-ass driving. For real? She jack your truck up? The bikes? The cover? I hope that replacement comes out of HER paycheck.

 

Maybe this is a question for MTgirl's thread. Why do women run over stuff in the garage- "To teach you to pick them up!" Damn- I already know the answer!!

 

More likely, so they can go shopping and buy a new car.

I swear, if cars were cheaper, there'd be a closet full of them!
