Noisey Blower Motor

Is it normal for tacoma's to have a noisey blower motor? There is no noise in the A/C mode. The noise is almost a whistling, when the heater or defroster is on. Any ideas?

 

If it's like a chirping sound when the temp is cooler outside, there is a TSB on this. Toyota will put in a modified blower motor. I had this done 2 weeks ago and it's perfect now.

 

i had mine replaced as well. only made a squeal on the low 1 and 2 settings while a/c was on. i didn't realize there was a published TSB on the problem though. the new blower motor does not squeal.

 

Thanks for the info. I'm going start researching that. I hate when I go to the dealership and they look at you like your on crack when you ask if there are any tsb's of any type concerning my truck.

 

My 2010 is doing the same thing, only in low speed. If you find the TSB please post it here

Hope someone finds the TSB # this has been driving me nuts for months

 

This is what I have found so far. alldatadiy.com just has a title. I am having a hard time verifying if this is the real tsb or if it is theirs. The TSB # they have posted is, SB0092. I don't want to pay for a subscription when Toyota should publish it. Is there any Toyota Techs here that can verify this. Thanks in advance.

 

The blower motor in my truck makes a ticking noise, most noticably at the lower settings. I did check the air cabin filter and there were small pieces of debris (leaves, pine tree seeds, etc ). I took the blower out and inspected it and it was fine. It may have been something caught up in there prior to changing the cabin filter.

 

Are you saying you have no noise after cleaning the filter?

 

Much less....there may be a small particle still in there. It comes and goes, which is why I say that. I didn't realize how dirty these cabin filters can get. I change it every 6 months or so. I just changed it last month and saw that it was a bit yellowish, probably from all the pollen.

The chirping at low-speed is due to the bearing on the bottom of the blower motor losing lubrication and wearing out. I went through a couple of different processes to fix this. Luckily the blower is easy to get to under the dash with just 3 bolts and one wire harness to unplug.

Following some tips on here, I first disassembled the motor and polished / greased the bearings. This worked for a while, but then it made the noise again. So I ordered an OEM replacement off the internet and did a direct bolt up of the new part. That was a year ago and no problems since.

I'd go the TSB route if you're under warranty, otherwise it's an easy do-it-yourself fix with the parts being relatively inexpensive.

tsb. Did it after I had mine about two months. Low speed heater chirp. Haven't heard it since. We'll see this winter. Get it done. They had to order mine after checking it.

 

where did you buy this part? My crickets are back after 7 months of greasing the bearings.

question about this, I had mine replaced at 2x,xxx miles and now it is doing it again but I am at 47k, could I get it replaced by toyota or am I SOL on this one.

 

Even though you are out of the 36,000 warranty, I would argue that you only have 20K+ miles on the new one. I would say they didn't give you the new part number but instead got the original motor part out of inventory.

You are probably going to lose but it's worth a try. Good luck. At least if you buy a new one take the TSB with you and get the recommended part number.

 

I am having this issue i think i am at around 25k and i get it when i turn the truck on and then i get it between 1.5-2k RPM. I have never taken the truck in for a TSB so i am not sure on if i just call the locals or do i call toyota to set me up? thanks for the help
