Just received an Extang Solid Fold Cover. Was shipped from Extang. My first impression was that the packaging was not adequate. There is a dent to the cover that looks like it was caused during shipping, but it is to the underside of the cover. I unfolded the cover and noticed that the rear seal (over the tailgate) was coming loose, so I pressed it back on. I then noticed that on the top of the rear panel was warped (waves in the aluminum) and the paint was scratched in several places. The corner and edge (joints) pieces are not fully pressed together. There are gaps at the joints with unpainted edges showing. Some of the foam seals were also misaligned.
Are these noted problems normal for the Extang Solid Fold?
I am returning this one, should I get a replacement or a refund and get a different cover? I want a solid folding or rollup cover. I know everyone has an opinion on the best cover, but what company has a fit and finish better than this?
    Thanks Ryan.

I'd return it and get a different brand. I just got mine installed on Tuesday (I bought the Truxedo soft roll-up tonneau). Well it poured all day today and I peeked under the cover and there was only a little water that leaked through on the front side of the box behind the cab. So far it looks like a good quality cover IMO!!

If you feel like Extang will make things right for you it may be worth trying them once more since there are several positive reviews on TW about the Solid Fold.

Here is a link to a thread with good reviews on the Fold-A-Cover G4 Elite. Similar to the Solid Fold, but the self install is a little more involved.

Another hard fold tonneau is the Bakflip G2 and it's other variants. There are a ton of reviews on TW about it, most positive, but some are mixed.

This guy sells the Extang and Fold-A-Cover for what seems to be the best price around.

There are some pretty nice promos for the G4 on his website.

Just return it and have them send you a new one. That is unacceptable after spending so much $$$.

I'd return it for a refund and order something different. I'm pretty happy with my Fold A Cover G4 Elite but I have heard of others that have received damaged goods from them as well. The packaging was not as good as I would expect but mine was all there and in good shape.

Yeah return that. Dents in a new cover are BS. I own the solid fold and like it. The only other brand I considered was the undercover but it does not fold.

I just installed my Extang Solid Fold. Mine arrived in good shape.
The quality of this U$700 cover just plain sucks. If it was a cheap chinese POS selling for a few hundred it would be great but for the money Extang charges for it - no.
Mine had glue spots / residue all over the place. The rubber seal on the tailgate was coming off and is too small to seal to the top of the gate. I had to trim the front seal so the cover would lay flat. The aluminum rails are cut after they are painted so at every joint, the edge shines bare aluminum. Most of the foam sealing pieces are too small leaving gaps along the sides.
It's a very nice cover but not worth the money they ask for it.
    I paid U$619 shipped from www.got-chrome.com .

OK, Extang blamed the damage on the shipping company (don't know how any of their covers make it when they are packaged as mine was). They have picked it up and I was refunded my money. I decided to go with Bakflip G2. Will post when it arrives.

Just got mine from Got Chrome.com for $610 in perfect shape except for some glue residue that wiped right off. Had a question on the install, called Extang and got a call back in 5 minutes with resolution.
A little pricey but a very nice cover that can be removed in 5 minutes.
I had none of the issues stated from others.

I bought the solid fold locally and it came with a scratch that had touch up paint on it. It was obvious the factory touched it up and sent it out. I took it back to the local truck parts store and they are replacing it. I feel sorry for the dealer because he's losing money on the shipping, and he said Extang will not reimburse him. What kind of company sends out products with touch up paint on it?? I emailed Extang to let them know my disappointment.

mine is leaking crazy water due to the gaps that the weather striping is making on the fold up side... the cover is crap.
