Latest Generation Tacoma's. Reset Of "Maint Reqd" light
Just some fyi in case you don't know how to reset it. TcBob could we make this a sticky?
This is directly from the owners manual Section 1-6 "Operation of the Instruments and Controls" under "Service reminder indicators and warning buzzers" Subsection G "Engine Oil Replacement Reminder Light" page 150 Clearing the "Maint Reqd" light on 2005 and up Tacoma's This light acts as a reminder to replace the engine oil. This light will come on when the ignition key is turned to "ON" and will go off after about a few seconds. When you drive for about 7200 km (4500 miles) after the engine oil replacement this light illuminates for about 3 seconds and then flashes for about 12 seconds with the ignition key turned to the "ON" position. If you continue driving without replacing the engine oil, and if the distance driven exceeds 8000 km (5000 miles), the light will come on after the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position. The light will remain on thereafter. If the light is flashing, we recommend that you replace the engine oil at an early opportunity depending on the driving and road conditions. IF the light comes on, replace it as soon as possible. The system must be reset after the engine oil replacement. Rest the system by the following procedure. 1. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position with the odometer reading shown (For details, see "Odometer and two trip meters" on page 143 in this Section.) 2. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position while holding down the trip meter knob. Hold the knob for at least 5 seconds. The odometer indicates "000000" and the light goes off. If the system fails to reset, the light will continue flashing |

I don't have any personal experience with Magnaflow but I've read that some people have them and have no complaints. I wish I had a sound clip of a Magnaflow on the 4.0. |

How do you do that? (I guess I am taking the bait). Mine is a 2005 Taco TRD Access w/ 6 speed manual. Show and tell, and i shall try. It is very slightly throaty, definately not stock sounding, if stock has a sound. I do not know if the K&N is going to change that sound though, because there would be more flow to the cat, whether the cat has more flow left to go through it would be the question. Therefore, I do not know which sound, if I can record it, is the sound you want to here. Also, I have to measure my Mag, not sure length of it, but the part # was 7414, probably a 14" if I was to take a wag.

This worked on my wife's 06 Rav4 as well. Since I do synthetic, I will be changing my oil myself (dearlers cost too much). This little trick helps me out a ton! Thanks.

Thanks Banshee, I just reached the 4500 mark and thought that might be the case but keep forgetting to look it up, you saved me the trouble. I'm now trying to decide if I want to stick with dino or go to Mobil 1 like I did on my Mustang.

Oil Maint light
Did my own oil today, as it is summertime and I don't have a garage, thanks for posting the reset instructions . Worked like a charm.
Usually changing the oil at every 4,000 miles. Oil was quite clean and just starting to turn color. Jeff , 06,6spd,SR5, 4x4 Brilliant red, Castrol GTX, |

Thanks again to Banshee for posting in oil light info. Its just one of those annoying things care makers do.
Its good to remind people of the need for a oil change and hope they will do it, just that blinking light would drive me to the dealer. I haven't decided to use Syn oil yet, I do use it in my SO's Subie wagon and in general have been very satisfied. One of my neighbors who is a Volvo mech, has all of his customers using it (Syn Castrol, Mobil 1) and has many customers with over 300K and still counting. He will take all of my oil used oil and he has a special oil burner in his garage that he uses for heat, so it saves him $$ during the New England winter. It burns just about anything but brake fluid. Anyhow we got into a long discussion on dino vs syn, weighing the costs etc. One real good thing about Taco's is that you can just slide under the truck and drop the oil quickly and then go up to the engine compartment and do the filter and add the new oil check for leaks and your done. No jacking the truck up to get at anything. Just as an aside, quickly, I live in rural MA., with in two miles there are three Taco's the same color as mine and a fair number of silver ones.
