CB aradio and attenta ideas? mounting?

my other vehicle is a 97 ram 2500, so my yota is a small toy truck compared to that thing sittin on 35s. but anyways im a big hunter and we use our CBs like crazy at the hunt club. what kind of CB radios are you guys runnin and what kind of antenta? in my other truck i got a cobra 29 with a wilson 1000 and huge a*s whip. i like that setup but i know te whip will be way to big for he yota. so i was just wondering what brands of CBs and whips anyone on here has and how they like it or not and lastely WHERE the F have yal been mountin these things?

i have a cobra 75 all in one cb. i got it because is has a small footprint. i use a 3ft firestik and the setup works good for me and my needs.

Did you have any issues getting it tuned in that location?

I sure did when I installed my 4 ft FireStik II. I couldn't get the reflected signal where it should be, and the usable bandwidth was pretty narrow. I moved it to rear of the bed, passenger side and was able to get it tuned much better. This also offered a much closer grounding location for the antenna mount.

 

I am running a Cobra 75, I have a 4FT Firestick in the left front corner of the bed.

 

Basically the same setup but with a 4 foot FireStik and works great for me too...

i'm running the cobra 19 and the wilson 1000 as well... mounted to the roof.

 

Don't you guys with the antenna on the roof get it ripped off by trail obstacles?

My OEM AM/FM radio only sticks up a foot above the cab and it already gets whipped around by trees!

 

Hit trees all the time, never ripped off. The wilson antennas are really flexible.

same here... if it's low hanging branches it gets banged around, but these things are so flexible they just bow back out of the way.... and you truly can't beat them for reception. i pick up stuff on the trails no one else does.

 

Haha I'm only half way there on the cb..I have the antenna but no radio

 

My setup consists of two 48in fiberglass whips from Radio Shack mounted to my front bumper at opposing ends and cabled in through the firewall to a basic Radio Shack CB (TRC-503 40 channel mini mobile CB).



I wired the power leads to a Radio Shack lighter plug with an on/off switch on it. This makes for a unit that can be popped in and out of the truck with ease. Since the truck is also my daily driver I don't like to have any electronics visible, it leads to break-ins.

 

I have one of these Midland units. The assembly at the bottom disconnects and it can be used as a handheld (comes with a battery pack and a small antenna).


For the antenna, I run a 4' firestick mounted at the back:



I may go to a roof mount (Wilson) now that Ihave the shell on the back.
