Did you find out which of the 7 wires in the stock 7 pin towing harness to tap to get your backup lights to work?

"I'm doing the same thing, and I'm planning on running them through my trailer wires. Both my cousins and friend have done it on their fords and chevys. But which wire on the tacoma trailer harness is the reverse light? Chevys have a tag with a diagram of each wire but my truck doesnt."

In regards to a 2010 DB Cab:

I've tested all the wires/pins in my 7 pin factory tow harness and non of them become hot when the truck is in reverse. The "Battery +" (black) and "Tail Lamp" (Green) remain hot at all times. I think I need the "Back Up Lamp" (center, yellow wire) for the install of my backup lights into the factory tow harness. All the fuses in the cab and under the hood are good.

Does anyone know if there is another fuse (not listed in the owner's manual) that connects the "Back Up Lamp" ? I read somewhere that the 2004 and 2006 had this extra mystery fuse located under the driver's seat.

Mystery solved: I had a bad relay. Dealership fixed it under warranty. The center (yellow) wire in the 2010 stock 7 pin connector is the trailer backup lights with relay and dedicated fuse.

This is what I did to mine. Brought a 'hot' wire from the battery (well, off a wire that's powering my front aux lamps) to the back. Grounded the lights. Tapped the driver's side reverse light, through a relay and to the new lights as the on/off. Tight fit for everything.

BTW, not real happy with the results. those walmart cheapies are certainly 'spot' type of lights. I don't know that I got much in the way of lighting. Thinking of just scrubbing them with some sandpaper and seeing if I can make them flood-lights. Anyone try that?
