loose antenna

My stock antenna keeps unscrewing on its own. I'll have to screw it in every other day or so.

Is there any way I can fix this?

Glue? Hot glue?

 

Teflon tape.

That's what they tell me.
Go easy on the tape. 2 wraps is probably all you need.

 

Prob could use loctite.. green or maybe blue, NOT red.

I just noticed mine had worked itself loose also.

Hey dude my 2010 does it all the time. I have to tighten it everyday lol. Sucks. I think toyota should fix it since all my friends are having the same problem. Boo.

i put a little rubber O ring on mine .. worked wonders and still comes off easy

 

Tighten it with some pliers. Don't just hand tighten it every time you walk by it.

 

Don't use loctite.

If you snap it off then it's a whole antenna assembly.

just use the right size wrench and give her a little tug.
Should not come loose.Then if you snap it off it is repairable.
Hand tight will definitely get loose. Rubber "O" ring is an interesting idea

 

It needs to come off for the car wash, so use teflon tape and not loctite!

Mine used to come loose all the time. I just used a small adjustable wrench and a little pressure. Have not had a problem since. Over a year now. I'm sure teflon tape would work also. But I would still put a little pressure on it with a wrench.

 

wouldn't you loose reception if you used teflon or loctite? i would just get a wrench on it and tighten it up.​

 

I wouldn't use loctite ad my experience is that over time bolts can become too tight and you risk stripping the head of the bolt or in this case the antenna. And as Tacoma mike said you will need a new assemble altogether which is just an unecessary cost/pain in the ass. I would also recommend the Teflon tape, just 1 or 2 wraps should be fine to make it fairly snug.
And since it was brought up you should never take your vehicle through an automatic carwash that isn't touchless. The brushes and what not will scratch the paint. The touchless one suck too but at least they don't harm your vehicle.

 

My wife's 04 Highlander and my 11 Taco both have issues.

 

Don't add anything to the threads that's going to present an impedance discontinuity. You need a good, solid bond there.

Try a metal lockwasher.
