it can get VERY expensive! your lookin at around $300-$500 just for a car, another $200-$300 for a good brushless setup and batteries can get expensive too

It can get expensive. I have about $1500 into my buggy alone not counting the radio, starter box, temp gun, battery chargers ect.... You can get into a vehicle with all necessary stuff for about $500. The sky is the limit after that. $600 engines, $500 Radios, hell even a alignment station will run ya about $300 if you get that serious about it. FYI I'm talkin about nitro cars, tho electric brushless is awesome too.
For a beginner, Traxxas vehicles are very user friendly and make a great starting vehicle to learn on. www.rctech.net is a great forum to learn and even get a used vehicle for a reasonable price.

    Too many to list
I have a stampede, rc10 gt, usa-1, and a duratrax axis nitro cars.

Havnt ran them in a few years, thinking about selling them and putting it towards a new toy.

What are you guys opinions on the best all around short track truck?

I am leading towards the traxxas slash 4x4 with a decent LiPo battery.

ebay is crammed full of traxxas stuff... take offs the like.
    I dig the scale stuff...
I'm building a cc01 with the kid this weekend (should it arrive as scheduled) I;ve been into M and FF chasis cars since they came out, but they're a bit fast for the kid. 55 turn and a tiny pinion on the cc01 should put it down to controllable and crawlable.

Ya can't go to a show or expo around here without an rc club racing tamiya Ms. Got a nice outdoor track right down the road too. Road and crawl.

    Thanks!

    Thanks, i agree.

    Yeah lol.

I would go with an electric Traxxas vehicle if your just starting out, go down to your local hobby shop and look around.

I like the slash 4x4, it is very durable, and it can hold its own (on an amateur track :D) with the more competitive "race" type s/c trucks.

Ebay, can be had for around 100$

Not trying to be an ass, but a Slash can't stay in site of a real 10th scale race truck, (Losi XXXT or a RC10T4) on a race track. They are very durable and cool for there realism, but bouncey shocks and no travel limit them to there "class" and backyard bashing. Pick up a copy of RCCA and see how many win races.

Oh, i'm talking as far as your local race track, not professional. In my own experience, most of the time the people at your local race track that have the race type trucks cannot use them to their full potential. Just my opinion/experiences though.

I'll agree with that, most folks just stab it and hope for the best, it kills me. You don't drive your real truck like that do you, I tell them. The very best way to go fast (lap times) is to go slow and in control, most people WILL crash during a race.

Again, was not meaning to be a dick, I really love the scale look of these trucks, had a Associated SC10 for awhile, just used to the smooth handling of my T4s...

Just with a few buddies at our private track, it is just more fun with just a few guys that don't take it all serious and all, now the competition is hot and heavy but all just for fun. Hell, if we make a good pass, or some one messes up, we will slow and wait on them, just to make the racing even more close and fun.

I bought a Traxxas Rustler about 6 months ago. It was $185. A decent one for beginners. Replacement parts are pretty cheap if you stick to plastic.
