I just took my Tacoma to James Toyota in Flemington, NJ on Monday to get my 40,000mi oil change and tire rotation (Did I mention I really hate not having a garage at my house). When I came to pick the truck up, I was greeted by: "We couldn't find your wheel lock so we didn't rotate your tires, but we did preform the recall for your gas pedal." I went over and looked at my now Chicklet sized pedal. I wasn't thrilled about it, but what really got me steamed was it looked like it was trimmed by a spastic 8yr old on too much sugar and caffine. I brought this to the attention of my service consultant; John and brought up how I've been under-inthused by Toyota service since I bought my truck.
I then went on to explain how the last dealer that I used I brought up the TSB issue with my rear springs and how I was dismissed with the pat answer: " The tech couldn't duplicate the problem". My consultant, looked back through my history and located the comments added by the last Toyota Dealer: "Couldn't duplicate problem, large ammount of customized suspension parts on vehicle" I explained that the only thing that I did was install 5100's to help improve the ride, nothing custom there. John just charged me for the oil change, and said that he would look into this and give me a call.
Sure enough, John called me at 9:00 AM yesterday with the news that he has a whole new gas pedal assembly on order, which should be in by Friday. To top it off, he stated that while the truck is in for that, He'll have the TSB done for the rear springs (oh yeah and rotate the tires at no charge)! It is a good thing that I bought the Platinum extended warantee from Toyota, they said it's all covered plus my loner car for the day. Now THIS is what I call great customer service. There were no excuses made by the dealer, and I didn't have to yell and scream. I just stated how I was disappointed by previous experiences, and let them do the right thing, making me a very happy customer in the end.
(For making you read this long @ssed post, I'll add pictures when I get the TSB done next week)

What specifically does Platinum care have to do with your service that wouldn't be covered otherwise?

Good to know. I bought my '10 from them in July and I'll be heading back soon to get my free oil change. Was very happy with their sales department too. They didn't hassle me. I went in, found the truck I wanted and told them was I was willing to pay. We came within $400 of each other and split the difference. Deal was said and done in under an hour.
