To me it t seems kinda gay how the system works. States requiring an 8 hr cwp class will not reciprocate with states that do not require it and vice versa.
Personally if I was in a situation where I needed to draw my weapon, I would rather have (if possible) the person that actually took a class standing near me as opposed to someone who barely ever shot a handgun and just walked into the pd, filled some paperwork and had it in a few weeks.
This is no lie. Some of the people I know that carry in indiana ( i am only mentioning this state because thats where most of my friends live) actually use ball ammo .45 as a "defense round". That's home defense and personal protection.

As long as I can prove that I have been around weapons and have taken weapons handling courses (military, FLETC) then I just pay around 90 dollars, send my picture in with paperwork and I can get my Alaska CWP. It reciprocates with quite a few other states too. Haha and in Alaska I don't need a CWP!

Personally, I don't carry a gun in my car, or on my person. I carried one for about 28 years as an LEO and always considered it simply a tool of the trade (much like a plumber carries a wrench, etc.) Now that I am retired I don't need to carry the tool anymore. Having said that, my only suggestion is that if you want to carry a gun in an unsecured location like your car, you are the one who is responsible for protecting it from theft. Yes, I know that the knucklehead who steals it is directly culpable for the pilferage, but you as the owner should make every effort to keep the firearm secure. Leaving it in the glove box, or "hidden" under your seat is just plain stupid, irresponsible, and in some states may subject you to criminal penalties, or civil litigation.

Absolutely not. Are you out of your mind?

Irresponsible/stupid my ass, my locked vehicle is my sercure property. What's the different in breaking into my house or my vehicle? None. Theft is theft.

I have zero responsibility for what some low life wants to do with something they aquired illegally from me. Zero. Nadda. Ziltch.
They broke the law, end of story.

I'm about to have an aneurysm just reading this nonsense.

Pissed me off that people don't adequately secure their firearms....within a locked vehicle or a locked house.

Shit, at work I have to keep my files under two locks (my office door and the locked file cabinet). Seems like a no brainer to do the same with my firearms.

If you think a locked vehicle is an adequate level of security for a firearm you're living in a fantasy world.

Ill give this location away because if my pistol is left in my truck, it is in a hidden lock box that is bolted and cabled to the truck. But, they are always in reach without having to move clothing when I am in the truck.

Several years ago my buddy was working at a high end German repair shop that specialized in BMW, VW/Audi, etc. A customer dropped off a brand new turbo 911 with the complaint that the drivers seat was jammed and didn't want to move back and forth. Guess what my buddy found? A ridiculously over-sized hand-cannon was stuck in the seat track preventing it from moving freely. Oh joy! Just what you want find when your digging your hands around under the seat of somebody else's car

Then what is adequate? Do I need to drive an armored vehicle? Do I need to in case my firearms and other belongings in a solid concrete bunker?
Who gets to decide what is enough?
One lock, two locks, 20 locks? Traps? Dogs?

Seriously, this is the dumbest crap I've ever read. The only person responsible IS the criminal.

If somebody breaks into your garage and steals your car and the pulls some GTA shit and killed people, you are completely not responsible. No more responsible than you would be if someone stole your firearm.

Key word STOLE. As in stealing, as in illegal.
    Who does these things? Criminals.

Who is responsible for their criminal action? The criminal themselves.

Seriously guys, stop trolling. It isn't even remotely funny.

Just don’t leave the firearm in the car unless it’s absolutely unavoidable, it’s pretty simple. A vehicle is generally easier and more likely to be broken in to than a house. If you leave it in there at least use some variety of locking case or cable to make it require more effort than just a quick smash and grab.
