Vermin Reek Havoc

I own a 2007 Tacoma and I have never had any problems before this year with rodents chewing wires. I started my truck last week to a CEL staying on. I had used my truck the day before with no appearent issues!! I noticed as I was driving that my transmission would not shift into overdrive. It was obviously the reason for the CEL to be on. I took a peek under the hood and found insulation all over and many wires chewed. I am having my truck repaired by a close friend of mine who is a technician at a Toyota store. He informed me that rodents love something that is in the wiring harnesses in Toyotas. I have put poison under the hood, but they still did more chewing after I put it out. My truck is now away being repaired and I have to find something that is going to keep them away from my truck. If anyone that reads this can give me any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it! I am concerned that I will not be able to stop them and I sure cannot afford to keep fixing my truck! Most of all, it ticks me off that these little bast____ are screwing with my truck and they never even helped me make a payment!!!!!!!

Park in a shallow puddle and electrify it.

 

Put a ring of traps round your truck. BTW I think the poison takes a day or two, but traps are instant.

 

Use moth balls and take that poison out.. as a tech.. I would not touch your truck if you had poison on the engine.

 

Also you are inhaling that poison whenever you drive.

Traps. Do NOT use those glue traps they suck. Use the good old fashion springs loaded traps or these work even better:

I bought this stuff to keep deer from chowing down on rose bushes. The active ingredient is capsaicin - HOT PEPPER it isn't poisonous to humans, just spray a bit on wires, that should keep em out.

x2 on the moth balls. A couple under the hood and a few under the truck where you park it.......

 

x3 on the moth balls, I put them in the yard to keep away all sorts of 4 legged critters.

 

small clay rat figurines stuffed with a little C4. it eventually worked for carl.

 

Sorry to hear about your problems...

Be cautious about inexpensive repairs which could entail splicing wires instead of replacing harnesses. Some of the sensors use shielded twisted pair and simply splicing wires can make the signal unreliable to the ECU which will lead to intermittent problems, especially when things get wet as when moisture condenses on it. Very annoying!

Sounds a lot more expensive and it probably is...but you might be overlooking your comprehensive insurance coverage which should cover this. You'll be out deductible but you'll have a more reliable vehicle and warranty for the repairs.

 

this is going to sound crazy but mice hate dryer sheets and they don't stink up your ride

we use these in the toys when they go in the barn over winter, haven't had an issue yet

 

I've never tried for rodent issue, but i sprinkled ground cayenne on an area of carpeted stairs my dog liked to chew on. Never went near it again.
