Beeping 4x4 switch

Does anyone know if there is a way to stop the annoying beeping sound when you engage your 4 low on the 4 wheel drive switch ?

Yep, it wouldn't be beeping in the first place unless your doing something wrong. In the 3 years I've had my truck I don't remember ever hearing any beeping when engaging 4WD.

I've read with the manuals the clutch pedal needs to be all the way in against the floor.

 

Yeah, what they said. I do have to confess though I did the same thing this weekend when wheeling and forgetting to slap it in neutral first. If you follow the steps that are on the drivers sun visor you will be ok and stop the beeping.

Thank goodness my wife checked in the manual and read the correct procedure!!!

 

What the others have said. Since yours is a manual, you have to make sure the truck is stopped and the clutch is pressed all the way down as far as the pedal will go before putting it into 4lo. If it's beeping, it's not in 4lo.

 

Exactly... same is true of the rear locker... if light flashes and beeping, it is not engaged.

 

Thanks for all the advice.....I guess I should have read the owners manual a little bit better!! I put it in 4 low this morning correctly and there was no beeping sound.....amazing. Thanks again.

 

Remember, don't drive on dry (or even slightly wet) pavement in 4-hi, or 4-lo.

 

why cant u drive on dry pavement in 4lo or 4 hi if u r going straight?

If 4WD was required to drive on dry pavement, wouldn't all cars have it?

It isn't needed, and in fact will hinder your driving ability on pavement (as you will need to steer the truck at some point and part time 4WD has no middle differential to allow the front and rear driveshafts to rotate at different speed... If the tires can't slip, then you will have 'binding'... it isn't healthy, even if it doesn't do any damage.
