AC In snow

How do they do as compared to a DC.

any difference since the DC has more added weight to the rear

 

Not well, it's very light in the rear.

I put cables on and it was 200 times better, but this was only for a couple inches of snow on the road.

I'm guessing you have a 2x4 like me. If you have a 4x4, you should be just fine. If not you can put some weight in the back.

 

I have an AC and it's been great in the snow - obviously, I have 4WD and the mechanical LSD. I really don't think there's any difference between the two that you'd ever notice.

The only complaint I have with mine, is my stock tires w/ 30k miles on them. They're starting to feel weak. That's the tires...not the truck. I will probably put some weight in the back to compensate for the tires.

 

Im Talking even with 4x4 and the rear locking diff.

I am in the market for a new one.

Its a choice between a White DC one with 84,000 wich the milage is what scares me

or a black AC with 54,000 miles

you dont wanna use a locker in the snow...that will only make your ass end slide out even worse. 4 hi and your good to go, throw a few 50lb bags of sand in the bed if your worried about it.

 

I don't there's much of a difference on roads between the DC and AC. The long bed would be more stable since it's got a longer wheel base. Both the AC and DC have light rear ends but good tires, a little weight and a light foot and they'll go through anything. I'd get the truck that better fits the rest of your needs.

but if you dont need the room of the double cab personally id go for the access cab because from what i understand the bed is bigger.

 

The wheel base for an AC (standard bed) and the DC (short bed) are the same.

If you get a DC Longbed (standard bed) - that has a longer wheelbase.

 

since the DC will be slightly heavier it will get a bit better traction on slippery stuff. But i really don't think you will notice the difference much, if any.

Your decision of AC vs. DC should be based on which configuration better fits your lifestyle.

6' bed is the longest you can get.

They never made a 7' bed.

 

They are chains not belts. Go A/C unless you need the cab space so you have the advantage of the larger bed.

 

never had a problem in my AC in light/heavy snow conditions...i do live in las vegas but every weekend during the winter months I'm heading to a ski resort whether its mammoth, tahoe, colorado, utah...you name a state on the west coast I've driven to it...that was all on OEM Rugged Terrain tires in 2 wheel drive...very seldom did I ever find myself putting 4x4 on...but that's when the roads were completely iced over, 1' plus of fresh snow on the roads, and steep grades up and down the mountain...

I do have a water bladder that I can fill up to add weight over the rear end but never found the need to fill it up since 4x4 and rear locker does the trick...

 

my bad i guess the tacoma never had one, coulda sworn my friends 92 had a 7' bed

I've got a 2009 AC, manual tranny, and I live in New England. Truck is stock everything with ~30k on it.
I just throw a few bags of tube sand in the back, it settles down real fine. I could get along without the sand just fine, it's more of a driving style adjustment than any problems with the truck. If I calmed down, it'd be fine - but what's the fun in that?
