crew cab vs access cab

Ugh so gas is becoming a killer and thinking of trading in my crew for an access cab with a 4cyl to ge some better mpg anyone else doing this or am i nutts

You'll lose money on your truck and have to pay the difference between yours and the access cab. You won't really save any money unless you sell your truck on your own and then buy the AC afterwards (for less than you sold your truck for, obviously)

i think the MPG would be a very little difference... the biggest difference will be going from a v6 to a 4 cyl

A commuter car wouldn't be too bad. Of course I say this having sold my Tacoma and am driving a car myself. I miss the truck for sure, though.

yea.. i avg 22mpg... if i drive 55 i can get 25mpg sometimes, but i really gotta baby it

don't do it! it sucks now, but in the long run you really won't be seeing any financial gains (or one that is worth while atleast).

keep it and just drive like a grandma. I've read that some members are getting about 400+ miles on a tank!

Drove mine to Moncton NB last weekend to see the EAGLES concert. 720 kms(446miles) round trip, used 92 litres(20.25 gal CDN), I probably averaged 110 kPH (68MPH) 4 people, thats 22 MPG!!! Not bad!!
Very happy with the feul mileage and performance of a 6spd, DC.

I run 75-80 mph on the freeway, along with mixed in-town driving, & get around 19.7 mpg. I have gotten as good as 22mpg at those speeds, when traveling highway only. 05 DC V6. $800 tonneau cover helped my mileage.

I'm getting 20mpg with my DC V6, and I've seen a few members with the 4cyls get around 25mpg. I'm too tired to do the math, but that should give you a place to start with to figure out how much money you'd save. If you save money by trading and buying new again (meaning the dealer doesn't rape you coming and going).

I have a 1993 acura integra that i have had since new. this is the car i drive to work when i want to save gas. My rugged trail 08 acc cab v6 is what i drive during the weekend or to a close construction site. i would stick with your v6 and just get a cheap honda or acura 4cyl and i think you would get the best of both worlds

I've been driving my 98 corolla to work for about a month now since the wife doesn't need it for school!

Gets between 40 and 47 mpg (depending on my mood and eagerness to get home at night). That's twice what the truck gets, but then the truck is twice as heavy, twice the displacement and twice the HP so I suppose the 20mpg is good for the truck.

I still have to get gas each week as 1 tank in either vehicle only lasts a week, but at least with the car it's $20 or so less each time.

It saves around $80-$100/month so it's worth it for now. Not to mention I need new tires for the truck, and not driving it pushes that off for a bit longer.

This doesn't make sense to me. Lets say you buy a $1000 commuter car. How long would it take you to save $1000 in gas, and that's just breaking even. Then you got to add in maintenance on the car, insurance, ect. I don't see how your saving any money (unless you keep said car for a long time).
